AD15 switching from U.K. Power Chord to U.S.

Post by steamboat » Wed Jan 28, 2015 12:46 am

I have a few AD15's and two of them have U.K plugs on them and i'm in the U.S. So when I use them I have to use a step up transformer to go from 110/115V to 220/230V. Can I easily change these amps to use a U.S. power chord? Some of my oranges have a switch you can simply slide over to select either 110/115v or 220/230v. But These do not.

I know there has to be a way Seeing as these amps were sold in both countries. But I would like to know what i'm getting into and if it's worth the hassle. It would just be nice not to have to bring the step up transformer to gigs.
Here's a few pictures of the power chord/Fuse section of the amp.

The mains transformer will almost certainly have an unused primary connection for 115V. Swapping that connection and changing the value of the mains fuse should mean you'd be able to leave your step up transformer at home. Same idea as here:

Haven't found a copy of the manual for the fuse value, but Sooner is our No.1 AD15 expert. If he doesn't appear here you might want to PM him.

I figured out what I have to do. It seems pretty easy. I'll post pictures soon showing what to do.

The fuse values are listed on the back plate for AD15s:

Hi No.1. Yeah, his only had 'Mains 1 Amp' handwritten. I don't have one at all, let alone 'The 001'.

If you look closely at the first pic you can see the "back" plate on the bottom of his custom head cabinet.

Hey I can read, but I can't read that!

Hopefully steamboat is sorted anyway. (If nothing goes 'bang!)

Alright here's pictures of what to do.
Theres two taps coming out of the transformer that are each 110-115V.
When it's wired for the U.K. 220-230v They connect the two wires as seen in picture number 1. the red and black wires with the green shrink tubing held by the white zip tie.

When It's wired for the U.S. they separate the two wires and they get wired to the power switch as seen here in picture 2. Fuse values are also changed .

Yeah that schematic is right on! Thanks for posting that.

If anyone is going to do this It's an easy job but as always be Very careful, Stored voltage can harm you.
