Geez, look at me. Just back in after a couple months.... my bad
Yes, Facebook sucks! pure and simple.
Don't take me wrong, I use it with other activities (not personally) and most all directed to current events but it is not what a forum is. As an example, I have a hobby of sand cars and performance side by sides. I use both FB and a forum and find there is more content, comradery and personal interaction with the forum vs FB.
Letting go of forums is almost like erasing history....

Re: Sad.....Day's of Yore
It really is.
And what happens if Facebook goes the way of myspace? There's a lot of flux currently in social media... and a lot of people have thrown all of their eggs into social media like I have with my band - I mean, we don't email anyone anymore from our email list and don't maintain it either! All events are on Facebook although we still have an up-to-date website but I doubt it gets much traffic. I should check analytics on it...
Re: Sad.....Day's of Yore
Yes, So much interaction, information and history lost by forums shutting down.
I remember when the Boss GT Forum was corrupted, went down and all the information lost which was enormous over the years.
Not sure if any ever used a board like the GT 8, if not, it's actually a fairly complex device with a lot of capabilities which can be tweaked and dialed many different ways to achieve a perfected (digitized) sound, love it for stereo.

Re: Sad.....Day's of Yore
A classic example of why we need this forum is playing out on one of the Orange facebook groups. A guy bought an old cab and wants to know how old it is.
• one person said google the serial number - it will even give you the month. Wrong! New cabs, yes; old cabs, no.
• one person said to call or email Orange. Wrong. What a waste of their time.
• I said write down the date codes on those Celestions and look those up.
sheesh....

Re: Sad.....Day's of Yore
I do have to say - the two main facebook groups I go to for Orange are Orange owners group and the vintage group. Which is something I wished we could have done here - separate out the vintage people from the Crush kids. I wanted to have a separate section of the forum called Crush Corner... I've always found it difficult to talk with people who think that a 35 watt Crush is going to sound like a tube OR50. ha ha ha ha

That, and i hate thay Facebook is all about immediacy.
You can't really follow up on stories, you just see the here and now and it disappears.
I don't mind so much the crush lovers, I was VERY impressed the CR120, and valve amps have a certain cost to them, higher than solid state.
Perhaps this forum was a bit dismissive of the solid state players. You're probably right Billy, a dedicated crush section would have been good.

It could have separated the questions into something more appropriate.Les Paul Lover wrote: ↑Mon Mar 22, 2021 11:32 pmPerhaps this forum was a bit dismissive of the solid state players. You're probably right Billy, a dedicated crush section would have been good.
I agree with you that trying to find something in a facebook group is like pulling teeth...

It's nice to have some Orange in my daily feed, I do enjoy that.
Otherwise, for proper structured gear conversation, forums cannot be replaced.
