serial number is 1171, i havent seen any as low as that so I agree they must be early. I really hope Orange have some record who these were made for, must be an interesting story behind them
Re: Found a pair of 4 x 15 Orange Cabinets
This is what the guy at orange had to say.
So, this is a 4 x 15 off set bass cabinet and would have been sold during the era of the 250watt Orange Matamp Guitar Amps.
The picture of the cabinet showing the speakers have the 1 pin nylon corners which were used from 1968 -69.
The picture of the cabinet showing the front has the 2 pin cut away nylon corners which were a year or so later.
However, the metal handles were introduced around the turn of 1971 to 1972.
Just to add to the date mystery the engraved Traffolite name plate in the top corner has just the word 'Orange' on it.
The very early nameplates had 'Orange Matamp' then 'Orange' and then 'Orange' with 'Voice of the World' below.
These changes all took place between 1968 - 1969.
At some later stage the 'classic' Orange Badge and 'Coat of Arms' Crest would have been added.
Given the above, I would suggest they could have been manufactured somewhere between 1969 - late 1971 to early 1972.
At that time production would have moved from the back of the Orange shop in New Compton Street into a small industrial unit in Shorts Gardens, Covent Garden.
The problem we have dating these products from the very early years is that the rapid growth of the company from 1968 meant that there were many changes over very short periods, whilst products were being refined and the final designs being established.

Re: Found a pair of 4 x 15 Orange Cabinets
Did anyone else notice the extra handle on the bottom of the cab? Probably for pulling it out of the van.
Re: Found a pair of 4 x 15 Orange Cabinets
I noticed that too! These have to be so dang heavy! These cabs are absolutely amazing! I follow the vintage gear pretty close and have never seen or heard of Orange making these. I know they made offset 4x12s. I would think they were custom made for someone back in the day. I don't think they were ever in any of the old catalogs as part of there line but who knows, they did a lot of strange things back then.
Dazaa - I don't know if you have facebook But there is a "vintage orange amplification" group that you should join and post these up, they guys would love to see these! If anyone else is into the vintage days of orange and has facebook come join us!

Yeah, I have this on the bottom of any combo road cases I own - extra handle on the bottom for pulling the case out of the van (or Volvo V70 in my case)
Re: Found a pair of 4 x 15 Orange Cabinets
Dear God, the StonerToanz™ would rule out of those cabs. Looks like they had bong water spilled on 'em too.
