A speaker phenomena

Post by Sootio » Sun Oct 20, 2019 12:56 pm

I've got a TH30 combo, which I dearly love, but it tends to be strident (trebly) when played through the internal G12H30 speaker. When I plug my 2x12 open back cab (Creamback M's) in along with the internal speaker, or just by itself, it becomes very warm and beautiful. I put a Creamback in the combo, but it didn't change the situation, so I went back to the original speaker.

Any ideas about why this is?

Bigger box, more surface/sound spread area with the 2x12.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. The nature of the beast. A little eq tweak takes care of it, but the internal speaker is never going to sound the same as a multispeaker cab. I'm wondering if it's because the TH30 is almost a closed back cabinet. It has an opening, but it's pretty small.
