Orange Rocker 15 combo + Mooer Red Truck or single pedals?

Post by milosvejn83 » Fri Apr 05, 2019 12:15 pm

Hello Everyone,

Recently I've acquired Orange Rocker 15 combo and first of all I would like to say that it sounds great!!!

Second thing is that I sold my TC Nova System and Laney Cub 12 in order to buy Orange so now I don't have any pedals except Korg pb-1 tuner.

I would certainly need modulation (chorus/phaser/flanger), delay, reverb and maybe boost. I use wah rarely so I might buy at some point or maybe even not buy it at all.

I've looked at some ehx, tc and mooer pedal so now I have to decide what should I buy.

Mooer red truck seems to have everything that I need + drive and distortion which can maybe add some additional flavour to already great dirty sounds of my amp. It has possibility for 4 cable method connection, drive and boost section is analog, mod/delay/reverb is digital and overall it sounded good on the youtube videos.

I was also thinking of buying single mooer micro pedals, maybe even buying only analogue pedals (they have analogue modulation, delay and boost pedals).

On the other hand tc have great quality effects, I was thinking of buying corona, flashback and hall of fame from them (and than add phaser and flanger to empty toneprint slots) but they are all digital (which may or may not be a problem). I would not go again with nova system since it's little bit boring to adjust effects sine parameters are odd.

I personally like ehx neo clone and memory toy (I've used those pedals few years ago) so this is also an option (maybe also holy grail reverb) and they are analogue (except reverb).

What is your opinion? Red Truck look as a good option because it is compact, but have anyone tried to use it with Orange Rocker 15? Maybe it would be better to go with analogue pedals (mooer and/or ehx)? Or TC which is digital but great quality?

I'm not in hurry with adding effects so I can buy one buy one (or buy red truck which is all in one).

I would like to hear your suggestions!!! :-)

Best regards,
Milos

The problem with the Mooer Red Truck is the verb/delay/mod will sound better in the effect loop, but drive and gain rarely sound good in the loop.

Actually the red truck lets you route the verb/delay/mod to an amp's effects loop while keeping the drive and gain going straight in (for the very reason you mentioned). You can see that here: https://youtu.be/vrHeAc17aDs?t=181

Hi Arthon,

From what I know mooer red truck have send - return between analog (boost/od/dist) and digital (mod/delay/reverb) so it can be connected via 4 cable method (analog in front, digital in loop) which is how I would use it.

If quality of effects is good than this shouldn't be a problem.

@Phlowen,

We both wrote same thing at the same time. :-)

The only question is about quality of those effects. Are they good enough or better to say at approximately same level of quality as amp (and guitar).

I have a high opinion of orange amps quality and mooer sounds good but is it good enough to match the quality of the amp in the terms of tone (compared to the other pedals that I mentioned)?

I wouldn't like to use low quality pedals with high quality amp.

Main advantage (at least I see it that way) of red truck is that it is compact and cheaper compared to single pedals and in my case it has everything that I wanted to buy (or even more).

Have anyone tryed it? I've almost decided to buy it but would like to hear experience from someone who is/was actually using it.

Just watched Andy's demo of the Red Truck and that thing sounded great. Well laid out and really like that you can choose the option of pedal board style or pre set mode. Four cable method to put the time based effects in the Rocker 15s loop is awesome.
I wouldn't worry about the quality of the effects matching the quality of the amp, tis a great age of cheap pedals sounding great and being minuscule. Deciding between that and individual pedals is all up to you, which opens up the can of worms that @jondog mentioned.
You already have a great pedal platform in the Rocker 15, good luck with the rest.

i been wanting to try one of the trucks. i think i'd like to have the black truck, as it's got the 5 band eq and metal distortion with the overdrive. but i guess the black truck is more for hi gainy metal sounds.

and i'd need two .... to run stereo .... somehow.

and yeah can o' worms is right. there are SO many great sounding pedals that are affordable and inexpensive.

I totally agree with all of you saying that these days you can find cheap and good quality pedals (regarding sound and durability). My question was more about is this mooer truck (and mooer pedal in general) one of those inexpensive/good quality pedals/multi effects.

As I said before I've almost decided to buy red truck - and from what I hear on youtube reviews and your experience I think that is a good decision.

Regarding red and black truck - I think that red truck is more suited for my needs - it has better delay and distortion is not so metal oriented. I've asked mooer are they going to release new trucks soon (just to take that also in to consideration) but they don't know or don't want to share this info.

I'll wait few more days (or maybe week or two) because I've already ordered orange fs-1 footswitch from my local music store (it was sold out when I purchased the amp) and then I'll buy both fs-1 and red truck (they are also dealer for mooer equipment).

Cheap pedals work fine.
I will never put hundreds of bucks in hype named pedals.
Apart if you are a studio master, the difference is hard to tell between a 30 and a 200 pedal. My humble opinion.

For example i bought a Donner Morpher for my "play any amp I find pedalboard" and I don't see the point to buy a 200$ Suhr Riot. Moreover the circuitry is even for the Riot a copy/mod of another older pedal.

@Hubaxe I agree with you - I was using for some time joyo copy of suhr riot and ocd and they were working great.

Besides that in Belgrade (I'm from Belgrade) there are for example two guys (there are of course more but I know those two) one is building amps, other one is building guitars. You can get literally Gibson LP Standard or Custom hand made for around 1200e and the other one is making his own branded amps (and also clones) - there you can get hand wired amp for 1/2 or 1/3 of the price of similar branded amp - same is with pedal makers.

If I would want to spend let's say around 3000 eur for equipment which is real top quality I would probably go to see them (and save at least another 3000).

Since I'm not pro my gear is Gibson SG Special 70's T + hard case, Orange Rocker 15 Combo and most probably Mooer Red Truck which is all around 1650 - 1700 eur.
