Depends on what you are looking for.
I used to have 2 ppc412's. Now I have just a single ppc212.
412 pros
When they were stacked, they were super fun to play through. Hard to beat that feeling.
Bassier tone (only a pro if that is what you are after)
412 cons
The 412 is heavy... like really heavy. The 212 is much easier to move around. If you have a practice space and don't plan on moving it around much for gigs, the 412 would be a fun one to have but if you are doing alot of shows, I would guess you will tire of moving it very quickly.
The 212 is a better tone to my ear. Punchier bass and a bit more clarity. Again, this is subjective depending on what you prefer for tone.
There could be some nice flexibility in having a ppc212 and 412. You could then use the 212 for a lighter rig, the 412 if your back feels well rested, and a 412/212 stack if you want to just have a great time.
I miss my 412s purely for the look but that is it.

Go ahead for the 4X12 !! Life is short
More air displacement, wider sound spread, and not necessarely louder. The only cons is the transport.
What about 2 2X12 ?
