What is your first weapon of choice with Orange Amps?

Post by mici88 » Fri Feb 22, 2019 1:18 pm

I've never really discused that topic here, but I'm really curious what is your fav guitar to plug into Orange Amps?

I love my 92' Mexican Strat with Hot Rails set into Orange Rockerverb MK1 - on dirty channel it just sounds so damn heavy and punchy, sits really great in the mix plus retains great notes clarity at the same time. On cleans I can still get a nice spanky tone which works great for blues noodling.

As for Tiny Terror, nothing beats my 88' Tele with Chopper T (bridge) and Area T (neck). Cleans up beautifully with just volume knob, so I can get dirty clean to roaring distortion. Works well with TS-9 in front, too!

I think my best match with my Oranges is my Tele, second by my Casino.

But, with my band, I mostly play with one of my Jazzmaster and my Flying V has #2, for rockier/faster songs. The sound that is better at home is not necessarily whats better in the band mix.

Depends on the band. One of the bands I am one of two guitarists is the les Paul custom is the best fit in my RVIII 100. In the other band, I am the only guitarist so the 355 is the better fit.

Funny you mention the chopper.
I've just out one in my Vigier Expert (strat type) bridge position. With the virtual vintage 54 neck and middle pick ups, it's my favourite axe at the moment.

Lovely chimey woody strat tones and thick hard hitting bridge humbucker. It covers so much ground.......

Otherwise, my 08 LP standard faded, SG 70s Tribute with mini humbuckers, G&L ASAT Special Tribute and my Aria Pro II RS X80 can all cover all of what I play superbly..... I "only" have 5 electrics, and I'm really lucky that they all are fantastic sounding and playing guitars - for my needs.

Hallmark 65 Custom. It’s a Mosrite copy. Hands down the best playing and sounding guitar I’ve ever had. It knocked my Gibson TV yellow Les Paul Jr to my back up.

Guild S-100, sounds good through any amp I've ever had. My default guitar whenever things don't sound right, I can
always grab it and know the guitar isn't wrong for anything I'm trying to do.

Thunderverbs seem to like Gibsons. They're sort of lazy, bloomier amps that really like a maple-capped V with dirty fingers pickups, which is a bloomy guitar. Some attack, but the real meat of the sound arrives a bit later. They do also like a 335 too though, with the gain all the way up. Gives that heavy distortion circuit something to really chew on.

I've got an OR-120 but it doesn't seem to prefer any particular guitar. It likes my darker basses better than the Ricks though, probably because I run it with the HF cranked and the treble down. Sounds better with a darker input signal, really puts an edge on an otherwise mellow bass sound.

In general, humbuckers. I don't really bother with Strats on the Oranges much. But I'd also say that none of mine really sound bad through an Orange either. I've somewhat moved on to Laneys as my first choice of amp, but kept all the Oranges because they're really good amps.

I play anything with 6 strings through my Orange, mainly a Strat, but also LP deluxe, SG ri61, Teles, and some others.
Works for everything, a little twist on the "shape" knob and rock on

At this point in time, one of my Fender Joe Strummer Tribute Telecasters is my main guitar, followed by my Duesenbergs, then my Gibson Johnny A., etc. I pull out a Dan Armstrong, Les Paul, and SG from time to time. But I could do the whole night with one of the Strummer Teles....

I'm quite addicted to the sound my John Birch SG custom makes when plugged into my Crush RT 20 practice amp when at home. Such a sweet compressed tone that I find hard to replicate through my Rocker 30

I need a new picture of the front of that Tele. The gold leaf is starting to go... plus I have a new neck pickup in there - I think it's a Rio Grande....

Yeah, the R30 doesn't compress much at all.

Don't you have a RV50 too? That one compresses very nicely. So do the AD30s.

Sorry for the OT. Billy I'm in the process to copper leaf my new guitar (superstrat with carbon neck). Did you apply a clear coat after the leaf process?

Yes, I did about 12 thin clear coats afterwards. By the way, working with leaf will make you question your sanity.
