CR60C or CR120C? Home\rehearsal

Post by Fulloshh » Tue Feb 26, 2019 4:44 pm

Hello, I've been window shopping orange for a few years now, finally decided to take the plunge. Recently got a 20rt strictly for home use as my Spider IV is old, doesn't sound great quiet and I'm kind of done with the modeling thing. I had made up my mind that i was going with the CR60 until talking to my band mates and they are worried that the CR60 won't be loud enough to keep up with the drums and the other guitarists 240w spider V. My Spider iv is a 75 watt and keeps up fine as far as volume, Is the 60 going to be that much quieter than the spider? Should I opt for the 120c over the 60? Thanks in advance

I guess I/t depends on what type of music you play and how loud you play it. I have a cr120c and I find it has more then enough volume. I play punk and garage. When just practicing myself I have the volume on 9 and the master volume barely on 1 and it is a good loud tv volume. Now with a drummer I can adjust it accordingly and I have volume to spare. Also I personally prefer 2x12 to 1x12. I would say go with the 120 but I’m not sure if it would be overkill for the style you play.

Music style I guess would be somewhere between Alice in chains and A7X.
I just want the additional $200 + in the 120 to be used. I almost never pushed the Spider to half way on the volume nob. But my experience with amps is limited to a 20-25 watt peavey and the Spider iv so I don't know how the 75 in the spider would relate to the 60\120 orange.

i wish i could tell you for sure. i'd assume that if 75 watts is loud enough currently for what you do 60 should be more than fine.

but just consider that the loudness or decibel scale used to measure loudness vs power is logarithmic and not linear. 40 watts is not twice as loud as 20 watts. and there is loudness differences between a 50 watt ss and a 50 watt tube amp but not because of measured power or wattage. unless i am mistaken.

this is a good video that describes the differences between loudness vs. power. although he's talking mainly about tube amps it still applies to ss amps as well, minus the other factors that make tube amps louder than equivalent wattage ss amps.

I looked up the Line 6 Spider V that you said the other guitarist is using. Since it’s a 2x12 I’d just go with the CR120C. It may be more then what you need, but it’s better to have more then not enough.
