OR100 Gain Loss

Post by Hologram » Mon Dec 10, 2018 10:53 am

Hello,

I have recently come to find out that the distortion channel on this amp will not distort when I have it set to the 50, 70, or 100w setting. I am still getting distortion when I use it on the 30w setting but it is very weak. I have not noticed any volume loss though, and I do also hear some crackling. Could it be time to replace the preamp tubes and if so, what brand would you recommend? I would like to add that I don't have any experience replacing tubes.

It's very possibly a dodgy preamp valve.

If you can get any distortion from the dirty channel, and if that's caused by faulty preamp valves, I'd also expect the volume of the dirty channel to be very significantly lower than the clean channel.
