The Beatles guitar tone
Any tips on being able to get a tone like The Beatles had? That sort of retro rock n roll crunch.
Re: The Beatles guitar tone
With what amp? With what guitar? There are a lot of questions here.

Pretty much VOX AC30 for early to mid Beatles; then Fender for later on.
If you wanted an Orange to do it, an AD30TC could dial it in.

That's interesting Billy, I've been trying to get Vox tones with my TH30 and CR120 and can't seem to get there (V30's). I got rid of a Vox AC30 head a while ago, but I have been toying with getting an AD30 Head and losing my other amps, just to simplify things a bit and go "up market" but needed flexibility. Maybe the AD30 head could do the trick if it has decent cleans as well. I should try and get to hear one.

I recently had a Beatles tribute project.
I had the vintage crunch pushing volume high to get the sparkle (12 and plus) and the gain carefully around 8-9.. The gain act as a volume at these low values.
This trick worked very well with my TH100 head, and with my 2 Carvin X amps.
And for sure, you need a semi_hollow axe, and an appropriate haircut.

And, if you're really trying to nail that Day Tripper sound you'll need a Stratocaster with flatwound strings.
