Is an AD15TC possible?
I love my AD30TC's as you all probably know. I have an OR15 but I miss the second channel - I wonder how difficult it would be to mate the twin channel preamp section of the AD30TC/AD140TC to the 15 watt output section?
Anyone able to weigh in on this? I really want one.

Re: Is an AD15TC possible?
You can yank 2 EL-84s out of an AD-30 if you mod the cathode resistor values. The PCB would have to come up, which is a fair bit of surgery in that amp, but totally doable for any competent tech. The only potential unknown is that the EL-84 cathode bypass cap values might have to be adjusted to retain the same tone.
This is much easier than trying to fit an AD-30 pre-amp to an OR-15. That can be done, but it would probably be easiest to just gut the amp and hand wire everything on a turret board. That's what I'd do to accomplish that.

Not sure if your TC Electronics thingie does this:
Many multi FX pedals have built-in amp models and built-in loop switching, and allow you to use the "4 cable method" to connect the pedal.
With those, you can stomp one button and your guitar goes straight into the front of the amp like normal (with or without effects added). Stomp another button and your guitar goes to the pedal's preamp/model and then goes to the amp's fx return, completely bypassing the amp's preamp (with or without effects added).
That gives you a virtual second channel. Just set the pedal's preamp/model for a nice flavor of clean.
(Actually most of those pedals will let you stomp another button and switch between different preamps/models, so you could turn the OR15 into a virtual 3 or 4 or 5 channel amp.)

This is possible, and there's also the Synergy SYN1, though there's no Orange AD-30 module for it right now, and it gets expensive fast.Rlw59 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2018 3:09 pmNot sure if your TC Electronics thingie does this:

Not too difficult. Are we talkng scratch build, or mod an existing amp?

Ha ha ha - I don't know what I'm talking about!!
Re: Is an AD15TC possible?
I can’t comment Billie other than to say I’ve recently fallen back in love with my AD15.
It was my first Orange purchased in 2004. I liked it so much I later “upgraded” to an AD30TC but after a few years found I preferred the single channel AD15 and sold the AD30TC. But then I felt the AD15 wasn’t loud enough so I started looking again for a single channel AD30 but instead found a good deal on a AD50. That saw me upgrade to a quad box and the tone is glorious.
But lately I’ve been doing a lot of home playing in a different space and the AD50 is too loud. I dragged out the AD15 but it just wasn’t doing it for me. After a few weeks I found out why when one of the EL84 blew. A new set of EL84s (just regular EHs) and this thing sounds better than ever.
Sorry, not much help other than to say I love the AD15!

Re: Is an AD15TC possible?
What about modding an AD15 for a tone stack bypass like in the AD50 as opposed to a second channel? I posted this question in the technical area and was reminded of this thread. In the AD50 the TSB is an excellent and eminently usable feature in an otherwise single channel amp. In an AD15, if not a second channel, what about a TSB? Not meaning to hijack this thread; as I said I’ve posted the question over on the technical forum.

Re: Is an AD15TC possible?
Sounds interesting but I really like the AD's twin channel voicing...
Re: Is an AD15TC possible?
That’s cool Billy. Out of curiosity, why the interest in the AD15? Are you finding the AD30TCs too loud or just looking for the same tone in a smaller package?

Re: Is an AD15TC possible?
Well, we just did a gig at a place where I knew we were going to have to seriously curtail our typical volume. I tried using my AD15 at rehearsal but I couldn't get a sound I liked with it (could also have had something to do with the "not-broken-in" 1X12 Orange cab, too). In the end, I went with my AD30TC turned down a bit but with an angled piece of plexiglass in front of it. Worked beautifully! (Brand new sheet of plexi - hard to see in the photo - my drummer walked into it three times!)
Re: Is an AD15TC possible?
Isn’t the AD30TC pretty unusual in that the two channels have not only separate pre-amps but also separate phase inverters? That’d be a lot of extra stuff to cram into the little AD15!!
Heck - the AD15 is half the price of the AD30 ... buy two and a simple A/B/Y pedal!!

Re: Is an AD15TC possible?
Yes, and the AD series is also the only amp Orange makes with a tube rectifier. Which the AD15 also has of course, but it's another unique thing about these.
Obviously, I like the AD30.
