NAD:OR15

Post by Dexter211275 » Fri Jan 05, 2018 6:16 am

So the local GC was blowing these out on clearance for $499 new! Played it a few times and I put one aside to get a few days later but started second-guessing if it had enough volume and "oomph" and decided to get the CR120H instead. Gave it a couple days playing it thru my Orange 2x12 and as much as I tried to convince myself I didn't hear that much of a difference between the OR15 and 120, I really did. It's not a night and day difference but the 15 has more bottom end, more gain and it's smoother and warmer/fuller sounding. If it would have been at regular prices with the 120 being the usual $250 cheaper, I would have leaned more towards the 120 but at $499, I just couldn't pass up the 15. We are only playing small to medium sized bars eight now anyways, 50-150 people which Im sure the 15 will have no issues handling. I'll be mic'ing my cab at pretty much every gig anyways unless its one of the little 50-75 capacity dive bars where people are pretty much right on top of you. If anyone is interested there is an A/B clip of the two amps from my iPhone below the pic. Should be fairly easy to tell which amp is which :)

I've gotta get some headphones or sumthin. Through my crappy cellphone speaker the differences are pretty subtle. I'm guessing the first clip is the OR and the second is the CR?

Nice playing, and I apologize if I got the clips backwards. Damn crappy phone...

The guessing game.....

Through my inadequate mobile phone speaker, I'm guessing the OR15 is the 2nd amp.

Who's the winner?????

Thanks and no, I returned the CR120H and got the 15 instead! As I said, for only $50 more, it was a no brainer for me. The light is there and lights up but the jewel piece that screws on is missing, picked one up online for $3. I scored a Micro Dark off Reverb for $99 last night as a backup/practice amp! I liked the CR120 but I guess I prefer the OR series tone to the RV, its darker and has more gain. Now I need to find an OR50! Oh and the first one in the audio clip is the CR120, second is the OR15. I should mention that the volume was only at 1 for those clips. On a good system (i have the Bose Companion 5) you can hear the difference. OR has more bottom end to it and bit smoother gain sound. When the volume goes up around 3-4, you can really tell the difference and the OR is quite a bit better IMO.
