Hey all. I've got a Rockerverb 50 which I play through a PPC412. Best set up I've ever owned. I just picked up a Thunderverb 200 head and I'm a little fuzzy on guitar speaker math these days. It looks like if I want to run the full 200 watts, I need an 8 ohm cab. Or can I run a 16 ohm cab? Can anyone confirm? Different sites tell me different things and I don't want to do any damage to my gear.
Thanks

Re: Thunderverb 200 cab
You need a cabinet with an impedance rating that your amp is compatible with. But beyond that, Ohms don’t matter in this context. What you really need is a cabinet that can handle the power output of your amp (plus some margin for safety). If your amp puts out 200 Watts, you need a cabinet that’s rated AT LEAST 200 Watts. For safety sake, you want more like 240 Watts on up so the amp doesn’t blow the speakers if there’s some weird power spike or something.
Re: Thunderverb 200 cab
The Thunderverb 200 can only output the full 200 watts at an 8 or 4 ohm load. A single 16 ohm cab can be used for the 100 watt mode as the amp outputs 100 watt at either 16 or 8 ohm.atlas511 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 29, 2017 6:12 pmHey all. Speaker config as below:
100 WATT:
1 X 16 OHM
1 X 8 OHM
2 X 16 OHM
200 WATT:
1 X 8 OHM
1 X 4 OHM
2 X 8 OHM
2 X 16 OHM
4 X 16 OHM
The Orange cab specifically made for this amp is the PPC412HP8 which is a 400 watt 8 ohm 4x12.
If you want to use it with the standard PPC412 then just run it at 100 watts out of the 16 ohm output tap. It’ll still sound huge. Or buy another 4x12 and run them from the 8 taps.

Re: Thunderverb 200 cab
You could rewire the cab to 4 ohms but then you wouldn’t be able to use it with other orange heads.

I sort of regret not buying a friend's ppc412hp when he sold it off for really cheap, considering they don't make em anymore.

Re: Thunderverb 200 cab
I have one too and it sounds brill (fat!) through the ‘normal’ 16ohms PPC412 (v30) but it is noticeably louder through my 8ohms Simms Watts cab (Hot 100s). I notice it mainly on cleans when i guess the 200w helps with headroom. It also sounds killer through a 300w 8ohm 115 i built myself!
Blood of the Mother is my dark and doomy psych band.
I use:
Thunderverb 200
Simms Watts 412 (Hot 100s, Swamp Thangs)
OB1-500
Hoffnine 215 (Delta 300s)
Yamaha SG1000

Re: Thunderverb 200 cab
What outputs would you use in 200w mode with 2x16ohm cabs or 4x16ohm cabs?
I’m assuming they would need to be daisy chained together correct?
So 2x16ohm daisy chained together into the 8ohm output?
And 4x16ohm daisy chained together into the 4ohm output?
I found a used TV200htc I’m looking at getting. I want something that I can push downtuned fuzz into with headroom to handle it.
