I love me my rocker 30 and I want to build a new 2x12 and can't decide on speakers. considering v30's, greenbacks, scumbacks, reapers.
what speakers have you found that really match well with that amp?
what others have you experimented with?
any that you found sound like #$%^?
currently alternating between (or daisy chaining) WGS et-65's (sound killer) and EVM's (smokin')
I play mostly progressive blues and hard rock. we jam/rehearse at stage volume.
thanks in advance

Re: speakers for rocker 30
Vintage 30 or Veteran 30 have been groovy to me.
Re: speakers for rocker 30
For Orange, it’s always V30’s for me, or their VOTW speakers which I’m using now.

Been intrigued by those. They came stock with the Genz Benz Black Pearl 30, an amp I still have strong GAS for. One day.....
How do they compare to V30s?
Otherwise to the OP, the R30 sounds great through V30.

Re: speakers for rocker 30
nearly unanimous. thanks all.
I just bought used v30's and they sounded really bad. noticed the voice coils rubbed on both of them and sent them back. seems I never learn my lesson buying used speakers. so it'll be new (Chinese?) v30's or veteran 30's.

Re: speakers for rocker 30
Im running one with my Rocker 30 and its sounds as good as anything I’ve tried. When people talk sbout compression with Alnico, I’d put it at the low end. Theres really not a lot, and what there is I think is good for the tone. Lots of crisp highs, but never shrill, and the bottom end is smooth and tight with a perfect amount of bark in the mids.onetracker wrote: ↑Wed Oct 11, 2017 5:03 pmhey jondog -

I'd stick with buying used....already broken in ! I've bought several used and no issues.
If you do buy new be prepared that they will sound no where near as good as when they get broken in and this can take several months. New V30s to my ears are stark and very harsh sounding .......however the 10 year old V30 in my Rocker sounds fantastic.

Re: speakers for rocker 30
thanks for the ideas. it's hard to demo the speakers you want and it's expensive to be rolling them. been there.
that red fang sounds mighty good tho. too bad there are so few demos out there from anyone who can really show what they can do. sensitive too huh? 102 db?

Re: speakers for rocker 30
So....
as I said in a previous post, I got 2 used v30's and they both had voice coil rub and sounded bad. sent 'em back even tho they were sold 'as is'. too freekin bad, they're defective.
finally found two 16ohm UK made v30's and loaded them in my oval open back diagonal 2x12. they sound mighty, mighty fine. I also configured it with one v30 and one wgs et65. that sounded real balanced and rich. almost orchestral. the 2 V30's are punchy and cut thru.
sound clips to come
thanks all for your feedback
