OB1-300 Owners, can you help me out?

Post by Boy_Narf » Fri Sep 01, 2017 6:24 pm

Hello Everyone!

So I've been stanking for a new bass amp/head for a while now, and the OB1-300 keeps coming up near the top of my list. I intend to run it with just a hint of dirt 100% of the time.

Now I've watched every OB1 YT video numerous times, but I still have a few questions.

1. Can the gain be smoothed out with the EQ? Or is it always a bit buzzy/raspy on the top end?
2. Does the amp get lost in the mix at higher settings?
3. How is the DI? I'm assuming both the clean and dirty sides come through?

I think I have a few other questions but can't remember them right now haha. I'll be back!

My bass players runs a OB-300 through an Orange 810 and here's what I've noticed
1. Gain sounds awesome... Always. The clear tone is even better.
2. Too much distortion in a 2 guitar band will make shlt get lost.... Not the bass though.
3. Clean and dirty come through, volume however is controlled at the mixer so whatever the bass player does to his settings the volume is constant.... Very smart. One thing I gave noticed is that the distortion can be a tad overwhelming in our in-ear/PA and one needs to tread lightly with it.

Hope this was of some help.

Cool! Does the di and line out work at the same time? Or one or the other?

So does it cut well with mods at noon? Or need a bit of a boost?

I don't know if they function simultaneously... I'll have to ask. Same about his settings. I do know that his boost always puts him over the edge :D

The second issue is that we use in-ear and that means we don't have issues of falling out of the mix. The bass however has never been an issue when it comes too not being heard even without ear pieces.

hey man , I have the 500 head, the gain is amazing. Works great in tandem with the EQ, I find the treble control acts as the smoother between the clean and dirt, either raspy or pretty much sounding like a single (monster) channel. We tend to have the gain dimed and on all the time pretty much as we're a three piece (most of the time) and the OB1 gain is almost like having another guitarist in the room- it really fills things out around the low mids in those circumstances.

Never used the DI or line out
Blood of the Mother is my dark and doomy psych band.

I use:

OB1-500
Hoffnine 215 (Delta 300s)
Yamaha SG1000
