A higher wattage or15
The search function on this site hasn't been working for me so I'm making another post.
My or15 sounds perfect for what I play... but it needs to be a more louder. To be honest, it has more gain than I need but I use more than I need with this one because it sounds so good. I have a 2013 or100 and it just doesn't do what I want. No tube or speaker & cab swaps make it sound how I want it to (I have tried more than I can remember). I have considered getting an or80 or or120 90's reissue, but I don't know anyone that has one for me to try before I buy.
I tried a badcat with the or15 and it sounded different. Most el84 amps don't do it for me but this one is perfect... just not big enough.
Any suggestions?!!!?!?!
Thanks

Re: A higher wattage or15
What is it about the Or100 that does not work for you ? Are you not driving the amp loud enough despite the power scaling? It is just too loud?
I never used the Or15 but it seems to have more gain and more modern voice , it's quite different to the recently discontinued Or50 and older Ors.
You don't mention what cab or speaker you use, a more efficient speaker would increase the volume with the Or15 and an extra speaker would also help if your using a 112.
What about trying one of the 30 watt models in the Orange range? None are high gain but are voiced for classic and hard rock.

Re: A higher wattage or15
At the risk of being boring, try the OR15 with a JR 2 x 12",i've watched lots of dems of the small Orange amps & the Andertons dem using the OR15 with the JR cab, sound much better, bigger, more depth than the other Orange cabs i've listened to it dem'd with.
Oh & i don't care if i am boring,i'm used to it
Edit:Just had another thought,if the OR15 is right for you,but you need a bit more oomph, buy another & use 2.

Don't like the OR100??
Like another said maybe try a different cab or maybe get another amp and run stereo?? Double the OR15 goodness?
OR50 might be an option??

Re: A higher wattage or15
The answer is simple: Orange needs to make a OR30. I really thought they were going to address this a few years back, alas...
I would buy one if they did.

Yes absolutely, it need an effects loop, power scaling and maybe an HR control andcome in a head and combo option with 12 inch speakers and transformers that come in such as the ad30tc or Or50.
Re: A higher wattage or15
I think between the Dual Terror, AD30, Rocker 30 and possibly the Rocker 32; they're fairly vintage sounding amps.
Re: A higher wattage or15
Here i am being boring repeating myself again, but if you can get hold of a second OR15 to try(so you're using both)i think once you dial in both amps together, you'll be pleased with the results.
They say a good bigun always beats a good smallun, but does a good bigun always beat 2 x good smalluns? ,
especially if you already like the good smallun
Seriously,i've always had great results using 2 amps(on my crappy pub gigs)but, when was the last time you saw a pro using 1 amp?.

Guess it depends whether he wants to double the amount of gear.Gordy G wrote: ↑Sun Jun 11, 2017 7:13 pmHere i am being boring repeating myself again, but if you can get hold of a second OR15 to try(so you're using both)i think once you dial in both amps together, you'll be pleased with the results.

Re: A higher wattage or15
Considering the OR15 and the #4 terror use the same pcb with a few different components value.... and considering the #4 is based on the RV50 dirty channel.... and considering the OR15 I tried sounded pretty darn close to my own RV50, I would heartily recommend a RV50 (I love that amp so much) and ask you to kindly send me your unloved OR100.

How about a left of field solution.
Get a Fryette Power Sataion, you can play at really quiet levels or.... boost your OR15 to 50 watts.

Re: A higher wattage or15
All good suggestions! I have considered the Fryette on more than one occasion and may have to give one a try. I've been using an orange 412 and a marshall 412 with the or100 cranking it to full power at my studio. The other 100w amps I use actually are vintage and sound great but I end up bringing a backup whenever I play out because they are old and finicky.
My main problem with the or100 is how the volume and gain on the dirty channel react with each other. The clean channel sounds nice and dirty around 12:00-3:00 but in order to get the dirty channel at a similar volume level, I find myself with too much of a different sounding gain. Maybe another preamp tube swap meet. The two channels don't share any preamp tubes except the pi and effects loop so that could be part of it.
I don't know, its weird. The or15 just sounds good and I get good results with my volume knob for cleanish tones. I never use a completely clean tone so thats not an issue.
I like the idea of 2 channels, but I still want them to sound like the same amp.
