Re: Should I buy a busted AD200B? Update BOUGHT IT
Fantastic!!!!!
Sounds like a great great score!!!!
Let us know once it's serviced, if anymore work needed to be done.
At least you've got the right cabs to go with it already!!!

It looks great!!!! Did you get all the valves replaced?
How much was the revalve? Still a great after that, right?
Which do you prefer now? OB300 or AD200?

Tech has a backlog so probably won't be able to pick it up for another week or so. JJ 6550s are like $40-$50 each so expecting a hefty retube cost. Still, should work out to be a bargain.Les Paul Lover wrote:It looks great!!!! Did you get all the valves replaced?

Awesome...I'm glad this looks like it's going to work out. The amp doesn't look too bad. I'd "trim" the loose tolex that's hanging off, or glue it back down, and put a proper large gain knob on the amp. It'll be good to go after some new tubes. Enjoy!
To glue tolex down, use a dab of glue and cover the area over with some painters tape while the glue cures. Press down, and don't lift the tape up for at least a few hours. Make sure the glue doesn't spill out past the sides of the tear.
You can use some rubber cement, or just plain old Elmer's glue. I like Elmer's, as it's water based and cleans up easily with a damp cloth if you have excess the squeezes out of the edges.

Ah ah!!! Whenever I've had to reglue tolex, I've always used superglue..... yes, I'm a hack.
But it's worked fine.......

Re: NAD: Beaten up AD200B - Updated with Pics
Well as an update, things have started not looking so good.
My tech spoke with me yesterday and advised that there is a nasty hum and clipping when it gets turned up. He got the schematic and has noticed that various components have been altered by the stage tech of the festival, maybe in order to try and 'supe' it up a bit or get it working with pile of poop tubes..?
No idea.
He is going to replace the parts and investigate the hum. He is 90% sure it isn't a bad transformer however he was originally 99% sure so the odds are dropping.
Hoping to hear back in the next few days. If the cost to re-birth it creeps up I may just cut my losses and flip it to someone who wants to deal with it or repair it themselves.

Re: NAD: Beaten up AD200B - Updated with Pics
I couldn't believe the cost of your revalve, and googled 6550 and kt88.... ouch!!! They run at around £30 each here!!!!
Hopefully your tech will be able to fix it soon for a reasonable cost.
Components swap are fairly straightforward, and only the big electrolytic caps cost more than a few pennies each.
As a tech, he should be able to replace all components pretty fast. How much does he charge for Labour?

I've never actually asked his labour costs. He has built 3 amps for me and worked on all my guitars, basses and other amps. I'm pretty sure he does a good rate for me as often he has charged me 'parts only'.Les Paul Lover wrote: ↑Tue May 16, 2017 10:11 amI couldn't believe the cost of your revalve, and googled 6550 and kt88.... ouch!!!
