Question about cab for AD30TC Head
I'm in the market for a cab for my AD30.
I have a 2x12 Orange Cab but I want a smaller portable cab to bring to practice. Are there specifications I need to look for? For instance I don't want the cab speakers to get blown.

Re: Question about cab for AD30TC Head
You can't go wrong with the Orange 1x12 ppc112 , one V30 speaker sounds great, Ive just one for years at practice.....just make sure the V30 is well broken in! Easily available 2nd hand.
Re: Question about cab for AD30TC Head
What do you think about getting 2 of the 1x12s and stacking them if I play a gig, instead of using a 2x12? Would it sound as good?
Re: Question about cab for AD30TC Head
I think it would. When I used to have a hot rod deluxe I just added a 1x12 extension cab and it sounded great
Les Paul, Orange AD50 CS, ppc 212 ob with 3ow green back heritage (g12h 30) and a greenback (g12m), Boss tuner, Cry Baby, Electro Harmonix Electric Mistress, T-Rex replica and the orange sustain pedal
Re: Question about cab for AD30TC Head
2 ppc112's will sound different than a 2x12. I've had both. Not necessarily in a bad way.
Re: Question about cab for AD30TC Head
Which Orange 212 do you have?..
The PPC212CB is a beast but the 212OB not only sounds great with the AD30 but is portable..

Re: Question about cab for AD30TC Head
I have the closed back. Yea it's great and was expensive to buy, but very heavy. So I'm wondering if it makes sense to sell and then buy two of the 1x12 and stack for gigs ? and for practice sessions I would just use one for easy portability.
The other option is to keep the 2x12 and use for gigs if you think it is better than two stacked 1x12s. And then buy one 1x12 to use for practice.

Keep the PPC212 and buy another PPC112.

Ok, at a gig would it ever make sense to hook up both the 2x12 and 1x12?

People have done it..... but that certainly wouldn't make your rig any lighter or more portable!!!!!!
The issue you will have is that each cab will get 1/2 the power. In the PPC212, each speaker share again the power..... so say at 30w, the speaker in the PPC112 will see 15w, and each speaker in the PPC212 will see 7.5w for 15w total for that cab.
What it means is that the PPC112 will be a little louder, but you may or may not notice it that much. Twice the wattage doesn't mean twice as loud, but a touch louder.
Practically, you could use either cabs to spread the sound around stage or could use one as monitor.

Re: Question about cab for AD30TC Head
Hi, I used two ppc112s for years when gigging (with a rocker 30) looks great and sounds good but then tried the Orange 212 open back cab and was amazed at the difference the open back makes....meaning I will not go back to using two 112s.Mike7300 wrote:I have the closed back. It's smaller and lighter than the closed back and can be easily be lifted by one person
As you have the ad30htc , which is what I mainly use now the open back really does compliment it's tone.
I'd sell your closed back, buy a used 212 open back and then when you can afford it buy one used 112 to keep in the car for practises.

Re: Question about cab for AD30TC Head
Another plug for the PPC212OB.
It's noticeably lighter and smaller than the closed back cab. It sounds great.
It's the same size as an AD30 combo.
The closed back has more low end oomph, but the clarity and sound spread on the 2x12 is a lot better. I think my PPC212OB is the lightest 2x12 I've owned (speakers being equal...V30s are heavy).
It's barely wider than my old OR heads

Re: Question about cab for AD30TC Head
In my book the open back 212 is superior to the closed back in every aspect. The fact that it spreads the sound better makes it sound bigger and even louder. The closed back is extremely directional. I don't even think it has more ompf. I'm planning to get rid of my 212CB and buy another 412 insted.
My two cents.

Re: Question about cab for AD30TC Head
That's interesting to know, I may sell this then as long as I can get decent money and get an OB 2x12 along with the 1x12.
Re: Question about cab for AD30TC Head
How loud can the 112 get with my AD30? Is it loud enough for gigs, maybe I don't even need a 2x12?
