Rocker 30 serial numbers

Post by carabo » Sat Nov 12, 2016 8:58 am

Hi, I bought my Rocker 30 combo a year ago and it's a great amp. We play small gigs, clubs etc. My sn is 03192-1209. I believe it was made in Dec 2009. Were all Rocker 30s made in England and when did the production end?

Hi,

Yes all R30's we're made in the UK.

Orange stopped making them when they introduced the Thunder th30 which as far as I can remember was around 2010.

Enjoy!

Congrats!!!! As one of the later years of production of the Rocker 30, yours has slightly better transformers than the early runs too.

I believe they sourced better transformers around 2006.

Got one too, though I only bought mine to flip as I scored it so cheap on ebay...... And It never left. I plugged in and loved it. It's on regular rotation between my 3 amps now.

Congrats and keep it !!
I've recently changed my TH30 to a R30 head.

The only thing I can say: wooooh !!! what a difference, I couldn't believe it. I do not understand why Orange decided to discontinue it. Okay it has no reverb and no effect loop but it kicks ass without them. Impressive :D :D

The dirty channel is fantastic for sure, but I'd prefer more control over the clean channel, and a more balanced output too.

Great amp though.

Many thanks for all the answers!

Our experienced american bass player said it's one of the best sounding amps he's ever heard when I got the R30 a year ago. And I agree :)

Ah ah!!!!

I don't mean to say it sounds bad, but it's shame they bypassed an EQ to make it fit a price point. After that, calling it natural is just clever marketing. Still, I'm pretty sure the the lack of EQ was a reason behind low sales and the fact it was discontinued. And the volume difference between clean and dirty channel is thing that's a bit amiss with this amp.

But hey ho, I'm saying that, I'm still keeping mine....!!!!!!

I sold my TH100 a couple months after getting the Rocker 30. The two-band EQ on the TH100 was good, but the natural channel on the Rocker 30 just sounds way better on it's own - more 3-dimensional. I give it a little kick with a T-Rex Møller overdrive, but a much lighter kick that I gave the TH100 with the same pedal.

The dirty channel on the R30 is much more useful than the TH100, even though it has less gain. I boost the dirty channel with a MXR 10-band EQ and a T-Rex Dr. Swamp distortion with the gain all the way down and the volume rather high - like the classic TS9 boost. :)
