If you had to pick a single delay whadaya get?
Simple small-ish footprint primarily for slapback.

Mad Professor Deep Blue?
If i was going for a simple digital pedal I'd probably get a Boss.
I think the warmth of analog might help for slapback use tho. Just a thought.

ibanez ad9 - dark sounding, sits on your tone in the background.
way huge aqua puss - brighter, more present in the mix.
i like both for slap back, depending on what you want...
the most commonly suggested delay on most forums is the mxr carbon copy - 600ms of delay, with modulation, easy to get hold of!

Boss DD-7. I've had a lot of delays the past few years. This beats them all.

Carbon Copy.
Can I raise a practical question at this point? Are we gonna do "Stonehenge" tomorrow?

Electro Harmonix Memory Toy. Should do the job and won't break the bank.

I'm pretty fond of my vox time machine.
Not crazy expensive, and I couldn't do without tap tempo, it makes a huge difference. upt to 5 or 6 seconds delay to in tap tempo, allows for a lot of exploration. My favorite pedal so far.

I second the EHX Memory Toy...fab little pedal and very reasonably priced. Also recommend it's bigger brother the Memory Boy...costs fractionally more but has a lot more toys on it...it is slightly darker in tone though.
If it's TOO loud...you're TOO old!!!

Re: If you had to pick a single delay whadaya get?
I think I prefer digital delays, so I'm inclined to say- Strymon Timeline.
I have a Empress VM Superdelay which is quite nice. As far as analog goes, I also enjoy my Diamond Memory Lane 2 for these types of questions, because it has 2 delay modes. I like a short slapback for beefing up solos, and a longer modulated delay for ambient/feedbacky stuff.

Re: If you had to pick a single delay whadaya get?
Well the Carbon Copy is definitely in the running. I had one a few years ago and really liked it. I just didn't need it when I got my Strymon El Capistan, which is a permanent fixture on my Rock pedal board.
I'm also quite interested in the TC Flashback and Flashback mini. I tried an Alter Ego just before I got the El Cap and it was cool, just not perfect.

Re: If you had to pick a single delay whadaya get?
Well, I already have the TC Flashback x4 which sound very good to my ears and is extremely versatile. The TC Alter Ego x4 is looking pretty good these days as well, even though it's just the same innards as the Flashback x4 with some different presets. Those PGS presets, though. I really love the Trinity Reverb, which is a PGS modded Hall Of Fame reverb...
If I had to go for a smaller footprint, I'd probably look for the Carbon Copy. It's a very intriguing pedal. But you guys are also doing a pretty good job of convincing to look at the Memory Toy, if it has to be in that size.
