That thing is bad ass. Definitely overpriced though. Did you play it? How does it sound?

Sounds like a bargain there, maybe down to the economic situation but even so!

You could get a reproduction sleeve custom-built for under $500 I would think. Although you probably have to take it to a tech to look over the electrolytics (unless the store has a decent tech), it could end up being a great deal. It's a bit of a gamble. The GRO is the best-looking amp ever made, so I'd roll the dice if it was near me.

If it's the amp that I think it is, it had some mods done at one point, because the person said it was restored back to original condition. That would make me a little nervous.

Re: GRO100 for grabs
Better pics in that FS ad. Thanks for posting.
So, from those, I see:
-Output transformer is an old Hammond (replacement), so the chassis has been drilled.
-Power transformer missing a mounting bolt, bracket looks a little bent
-Obviously no original head sleeve
-Plexi panel cracked and warped (makes me wonder if the metal is bent behind it, or it's warped from heat)
-No top side can caps
My guess from the pics I see is that the amp got dropped pretty hard at some point. This would account for a lot of what i'm seeing. The replacement transformer kind of pushes it over the edge, IMO. I've used an old UL Hammond OT in my OR-120 in the past while I waited for a drop in replacement and wasn't crazy about the sound.
Bare minimum; head sleeve, output transformer, proper recap. Not sure what lies inside on the PCB. That could be a host of other issues, but as long as the PCB didn't crack from the alleged fall that i'm leaning towards, parts are cheap.
I think i'd pass, sight unseen, without some good pics. Billy, you thinking about picking it up? If you grab it, i'd be more than happy to send you pics or any layout or circuit info on my GRO head if you needed help piecing things together.
Someone should save this. If noone bites on it, let me know and i'll try to find out more info on whether or not it's something i'd have the time to restore.

Re: GRO100 for grabs
I hadn't noticed the missing white areas last night viewing it quick on my ipad.
Guess that's why they decided to cut the price in the end.
