Wow, that's small! How do you keep it from flipping over when you step on it?

Cool. I made a similar thread about my plans to do this but never got around to it. http://forum.orangeamps.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=48248" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The Orange footswitch is massive.

it truly is. i can understand if its not on a pedalboard. and the thing is built like a tank. but it could very easily fit into a mxr sized box at least. and a 1590B, as seen here! its just a switch, a jack and an LED. literally. oh and a resistor for the LED.

How do you mill this? I don't quite understand the whats and hows of "milling" a box for a pedal.
Where do you get the raw materials to start and what kind of equipment is used, and how do you have access to all of this. I think I am creative enough to do something like this, but where to get started?

well im no master machinist. in this case, it is literally the first and only thing i have ever done.
i was taking a cad/cam class (computer aided design,machining/manufacturing) at the local community college.
it taught the MasterCAM software, a horrible little piece of...i digress, but it is the software that for some reason was chosen as an industry standard for machining with CNC mills and lathes.

so "milling" meaning putting it into a HASS CNC mill machine after designing, in 3D, the holes and cuts.

I ordered a hammond 1590 LB enclosure, pre-finished with the annodized orange finish, from pedalpartsplus.com. it alreayd had holes drileld for the jack and the footswitch as well. on the order form, i had them custom drill an LED hole. so it arrived pre-painted and pre-drilled.

the final for the class was just to make/mill something. anything. no rules, really, within reason.

well i had spec'd the LED hole too small. so CNC step one was to circle mill the LED hole bigger. then, using the size of the box as inputed in my 3D design, i had a 1/16" flat endmill come in and cut both the pinstipe channel and the the squarewave "pocket" (meaning the bit came around in one pass making the stripe, but dug out the wave design in muliple passes.

while demonstrating the use of the HASS CNC mill, the teacher actually messed up and confused his Z axis with his Y axis, and rammed the bit down on top while getting the box's position set. we ran the program, and since the middle was dented in, part of the square wave was missing. had to flip it over and hammer it back flat with a mallet, resulting in the blemish you see there on the top. he didnt deduct any points for his mistake :) i got an A, and a new orange footswitch, for under $20
