Sold my old slightly scratched up DS-1 for $40, and then bought a used virtually new one for $20. I love the sale/want ads!

I got mine for free. Used it once, tossed it in a box.

I never said it was a good pedal, but Ive always had one. Lots of good mods out there for them, kept a DS-1 around with intent of doing so. They are built pretty solid.

Think I read that he played a DS-1 into a crunchy Marshall here:

My DS-1 never worked well with my AD30 though, think it's too dark and compressed already, but for slightly overdriven Marshalls or Fender it's a great Soloboost.

Riding my DS-1 for a Fulltone OCD was one of the best decisions on my pedalboard.

I've always heard that OD goes best with tubes because it can push it into distortion mode while distortion pedals go best with solid state because it acts more like a tube amp in a box. I don't really know about all that but i tend to favor OD with tubes and distortion with solid state anyway. It just sounds better to me. Unless you have a really high headroom amp like an old Hiwatt (think Gilmour) or Fender Twin which is designed to be used as a clean amp.

Yeah, pretty much. But Distortion pedals are just as useful on tube amps. The DS-1 can function like an overdrive too.hitgar wrote:I've always heard that OD goes best with tubes because it can push it into distortion mode while distortion pedals go best with solid state because it acts more like a tube amp in a box.
