... up today, whom I've never seen before and hands me this:
And I have no idea what to do with it at this point.

hands you what? a piece of a faceplate, or is there an amp behind that?
I'm clueless here.

You know, if there had been a string of tornadoes in the area I could see how my post could be really tragic. But I assure you that's not the case.
Not too many amps with that exact logo on it though.

I believe that this involves a FedEx delivery of an incredibly rare amplifier. That's all I've been able to deduce. Back to you, Holmes.

We have a winner!.... But not of my 40th OR50.conkerandco wrote:after much detective work......40th anniversary OR50?!
This this is super clean too! I bought it used so I thought there would be some wear here and there but it looks really well taken care of, which is awesome. It looks like it just got pulled out of the box and sat on the showroom floor for a month. No scrapes, scuffs,
I did get my hopes up though since Randy (if that is your real name) and I think Ironlung40 mentioned that their 40th OR50s came with Winged -C- EL34s but this one didn't come to me with a set. That's ok though since I have 2 sets of Winged -C-s sitting at home ready to go.
Planning on running it pretty hard tonight. I got 10 minutes at lunch (ok it blended into 20 but don't tell work) and it sounded bitchin.
I'll probably check the bias this evening and swap some preamp tubes.
For you OR50 owners, any preamp tube recommendations? How about non-V30 speakers? (I've never really gotten along with V30s)

well the 40th anny cab that was matched for the OR50 came with G12H30s. that's always a good place to start.Thinline_slim wrote:For you OR50 owners, any preamp tube recommendations? How about non-V30 speakers? (I've never really gotten along with V30s)

I ran mine with V30's. No harshness detected here, as the OR50 is a smooth amp already. I'd like to try the G12H's though, I bet they're the best combo with that amp.
As far as preamp tubes, I would have like to have tried 12at7's to run the cleanest ones I could to try and tame some of the early onset fuzz (EOF) I had vintage mazdas in mine, and I also ran tung sols in it, and the stock white labeled ECC83's didn't sound bad either. That amp really sounds good with just about anything in it really.

Great point! I had forgotten about the matching cab. Right now I have an Orange OBC with an Emi Wizard (G12H30-like) and an Emi Private Jack (G12M-like). I'll keep it going for a while but I might try just the Wizard to get an idea what the G12H30 vibe would be.jason41224 wrote:well the 40th anny cab that was matched for the OR50 came with G12H30s. that's always a good place to start.Thinline_slim wrote:For you OR50 owners, any preamp tube recommendations? Thanks for the input. I have a few Jan-Phillips 5751s sitting at home that I'm sure one or two will find it's way in there. I really like that tube since it cleans up better than a 12ax7 but you don't have the drop in signal/volume like a 12AT7. Good middle ground.ironlung40 wrote:I ran mine with V30's. Re: This random guy wearing shorts and a blue/purple shirt s
Congratulations! They are even prettier in person - especially the faceplate.
I do prefer G12H-30s over Vintage 30s with the OR50 by a large margin. After comparing the PPC412-LTD with the PPC212, I haven't bothered to try the OR50 with anything else.
I'm afraid I'm no help with preamp tubes either. I've still got the stock ones in there, and I don't even know what kind they are.
The OR50 and TT combo are the only two amps I own that I am happy with pretty much 100% of the time, so I don't experiment with them very much.
