Random: AC30 Handwired vs. OR50

Post by Sethery » Mon May 21, 2012 7:19 pm

I know these are two totally unrelated amps, and I know most of what these amps are about, and I also know this is an ORANGE amp forum...
With that said, i was curious what you fellow orange peeps would do. I have a rockerverb 50 head and ppc212 that i'll keep until the day i die, but i also have a mint mesa boogie tremoverb head that I'd like to sell or trade for a new amp. The two amps i'm considering are the orange or50 production model or a new AC30 handwired series. Should I grab the orange or50, or would you guys recommend me try a totally new flavor with the VOX AC30 handwired combo?

Thanks!! :D
Love, Seth.

I'd either need more information or OR50.

What is it that you want the 2nd amp to do? What type of music? What type of utility?

I've personally been drooling over an OR50 but I already have a Genz Benz Black Pearl 30, which is rumored to be pretty comfortable in the Vox voice camp but I've never played it side by side with a Vox either.

I think all 3 amps are very different... RV50/OR50/AC30.

You could probably have the 3? ;)

I don't know about the OR50's but I can say through personal experience that the AC30HW is incredibly good. Try one !

AC30. undoubtedly. OR50 is cool, but it would cover most of the ground the Rockerverb could, excluding the highest of high gain. an AC30 would get you somewhere totally different.

or you could always grab an AD30 for the best of both worlds.

I guess i'm not 100% sure what I want the 2nd amp to do. I play everything from rock to blues, but the tunes i write and the style i play sounds best with a focused overdriven clean with dynamics. I record a lot, but also play in a live band set up as well. The idea of a 2x12 combo sounds nice with the AC30, but that OR50 seems so appealing as well with it's simple one channel setup, 50 watts, and pics only front panel.

I played a Vox AC30 HW for a few hours one day and I really liked it. No pedals, just straight in.

By playing with the guitar volume and the amp settings I was able to get a really nice rock break up and then ease back to warm cleans with ease.

It does weigh as much as a Volkswagen Beetle however

I'd dump the RV and get the OR and the AC30... with a side of AD30.
