New cab in 2 hours!!!
So I've been contemplating replacing my cheap Harley Benton 2x12 for a while now, after all i only got it as a cheap method of getting my Orange going through some vintage 30's. But the cab isn't great quality and my band are getting quite a lot of gigs lately so i feel i need something a bit more substantial.
I was looking at getting a custom cab from Zilla made in Orange and Paul was offering to do the picture-frame styling for a small extra cost to get it pretty close to looking like a ppc212.
But whilst trawling though ebay on the bus this morning I came across a mint condition Marshall 1960tv (greenbacks) 4x12 for a ridiculous price!! I'm picking it up tonight and can't wait to put my TH30 through it

Sounds awesome. If you fancy taking two speakers out and selling them to me I'm in Oxford, I'll come pick them up

Nice! Love the way those TV cabs look. They are HUGE! A quad of G12m is where it's at IMO.

Here it is! First impressions; absolutely phenomenal cab! Completely fills the room with sound compared to my 2x12, i already think i prefer the Greenbacks to my Vintage 30's, they just seem more lively and responsive IMO. Definitely the bargain of my year aha. The guy chucked in a padded cover also, well worth the trip to London.

Well I'm just jealous as Hell! Congrats.

question on the speakers. they're G12M Greenbacks, right? 25w? the Avatar site says that the general concensus is that they are very similar to the G12H30's. is this true? I'm running one of those and a V30 in my ppc212. Avatar lists a 412 speaker cab with Greenbacks for $599. seems like a pretty good deal. Not that i'm in the market right now but i'm always looking.

The 1960TV has G12M-25s in it. I don't consider them to be that close to G12H-30s. The G-12Ms are way more mid-focused, while the G12H-30s are more balanced with more noticeable treble and bass response. I tend to like G12Ms best with M*rshalls and G12H-30s with Oranges.Woodsie wrote:question on the speakers. they're G12M Greenbacks, right? 25w? the Avatar site says that the general concensus is that they are very similar to the G12H30's. is this true? Randy is spot on as usual. I love H30s but a marshall full of greenbacks is golden. They move so much you can feel the air hit you.

congrats!
although when i had 2x12 g12m's it was way too woody sounding and middy for me.

So...i've just had in idea How about 2 greenbacks and 2 V30's in an X pattern?! They're all 16 ohm speakers so should be possible in theory.
Any one tried this before? And is it ok to mix low and high wattage speakers in the same cab?

New cab in 2 hours!!!
Yep, you could do that. It's fine to mix low and high wattage speakers in the same cab, all of the speakers will basically just run at the same wattage as the lowest rated speaker in the cab. So your total wattage for the cab will still be the same even if you pop some V30's in there.conkerandco wrote:So...i've just had in idea How about 2 greenbacks and 2 V30's in an X pattern?! Ohh awesome, may have to try it over the weekend then! Thanks for your help.
I feel a tiny bit more confident with putting together speaker configurations lately as we've just covered Kirchoff's Laws in my AS Physics course aha.

Cheers mate! I'm not surprised, it was an incredible deal for a cab in such good nick. Although that white cab in your signature looks pretty tasty tood1dsj wrote:Beautiful cab, I nearly bid on that one myself!
