chances are, we will all say yes, but the real metal folk (yourself probably included) will disagree sharply. so i'd say no (though i could probably coax some nice metal tones out of there).

listen to Rob Chappers demo on Youtube. i think it does the sound justice. in it, he mentions that it's not really a full on metal amp, but it does metal okay.

The Dark Terror isn't a full-on metal amp? Are you SURE?!

Having replaced my Rockerverb with a DkT, I'd say yes, the Dark Terror will do fast/technical metal, and do it well. It has more gain that you could ever need, and the shape control takes it from a very middly sound through to a full-on scooped sound; if you can't find a decent metal sound in there somewhere then there's something wrong.

^like i said, most people on here (myself included) would say that it could do metal just fine. but kids looking for a Peavey 6505 clone (coughcoughbadmonkeycoughcough) will always b!tch about how it's not tight enough.

I imagine through a decent 4x12 it would do the job but maybe not through a 1x12 or an open backed 2x12.

If you dig orange tones but want something with more gain, you'll love it. If your dream is a 6505+ but cant afford one, get a bugera.

I've seen Kerry (KMlabs) play his dark terror live once and once at practice, yes, it does tight metal - wth tha Orange flavour.

I tried the dark terror at my music shop, it wasn't tight on it's own. I plugged in a hardwire cm-2 and set it to be a clean boost... it was fairly tight, sounded okay for tech/prog, I guess

I would think you would get better results with an eq pedal and a compressor. with the eq pedal you can cut the frequencies that make it sound muddy.

the compressor will make it more in your face and punchy.

this amp sounded fairly saturated, for tech stuff you do not want much saturation!
however, this amp is very good for thrash (pantera, metallica...)
for tech stuff, don't get this amp! (unless you are prepared to spend more on pedals or what ever to make it sound right, than the amp itself!)

remember, metal tone is NOT all about gain... in fact, the less gain you have, the clearer and tighter the sound

@kmlabs Since you own a Dark Terror, I have a question. Does the amp give off a sharp hiss? I've heard some people complain about that. Also, would you recommend the Dark Terror for Chevelle and Tool type sounds? Thanks man!

It really depends what cab you use it with too. Using the same cab as you would a regular Orange might not always be the best idea. If a cab isn't good for metal, it's not good for metal. Though the PPCs should generally be fine for most genres.

With the right pedals this amp is capable of about any metal tone you can think of. I use EQ>delay>Decimator in the loop and this thing kills.

If an orange is not tight enough, maybe your technique is lacking????
