N.G.D tokai love rock

Post by Mrjones2004x » Mon Jul 11, 2011 6:51 pm

Picked this up this morning,

Tokai love rock in black. Made in Korea.
Played it unplugged and it rang out very well and sounded warm. Didn't bother to plug in as would prob change electrics anyhow.
Stripped, cleaned, oiled fretboard, restrung with 11's and jobs a goon en!
Plugged in and wow! The pickups are very good IMO, not muddy at all and pretty bright in bridge with loads of thickness. Very balanced volume between the two also. Controls work really well considering there the Chinese mini pot type.
Am pleased for def! £250 well spend.

As it is now

As it was before with pic guard.

Can't find a serial number anywhere externally so don't know how to date it

Looks great!

Can you even get a Tokai in the US? I tried to find them a while ago without success.

Ebay is the only place I know of Bob

Also, there's a guy on TGP but I forget his screen name he's in South Africa or something. The older Japanese ones are amazing instruments. I hear good things about the new ones too.

Very nice :D , i have a 1984 Tokai Jazz & a new Thunderbird copy, world of difference between them but the Thunderbird isn't a bad bass by any means certainly punches well above it's price tag.

Any idea how i can date it without a visable serial number?

Would it be under the neck pickup or something silly like that?

Just for my own interest really. Feels good and sounds good and has a nice action on it too so im happy. :D

Not sure to be honest, have a look on the Tokai Registry there may be something on there that will help. Worth a look at least. :)

I would love one someday, they're really well-made instruments.

Certainly are. Best feeling / sounding / playing Strat I ever played was a Tokai...

After some research looks like it is a Korean made ALS-48 with mk4 pickups. Looks to be made of alder and maple.

Like I said I'm only interested for the info, just wanna know what I'm playing really. Be nice to know how old it is but guessing never gonna know as they didn't do serial numbers for quite a few years.

There is a Tokai Love Rock that I see on the Chicago Craigslist every so often. The seller wants $1,000 for it though. It's a sunburst guitar and it looks like it is in good condition.
Lost in the spacey reverb of the Rockerverb.......SOMEBODY GET ME OUTTA HERE!!
