Jack White and It Might Get Loud
The latest edition of TapeOp has interviews of Jack White and several people who have worked with him. Interesting stuff as he like tape (has an old 8-track that he uses exclusively).
So, I decided it was time to watch It Might Get Loud. I was very pleasantly surprised as the documentary was very interesting and very well done. I knew nothing about Jack White, but learned to appreciate his intensity and his playing. I wouldn't be able to identify a U2 song if my life depended on it, but the number of pedals Mr Edge had was mind boggling. I was never a big Jimmy Page fan, but will appreciate him more after seeing this movie.
So, read the most recent TapeOp and watch the movie.

Fantastic movie, can't say enough about it. I'm lucky to live right outside NYC so I was able to go see it in a theater there when it first came out and it was a great experience!

You don't like Jimmy Page? Blasphemy! For me he's the only guitarist worthy of mention amongst the three of them, and the only reason I watched the film. Well to each his own I guess.
Re: Jack White and It Might Get Loud
Cool movie, but I was a little disappointed a fist fight didn't break out like Jack White was presuming.
Re: Jack White and It Might Get Loud
great movie
would have preferred someone different to The Edge... but having a Tool in the film added some much needed pathos i guess

Other than Jimmy Page, I've never really been into The Edge or Jack White and their respective bands myself either, but I definitely gained gained a lot of appreciation and respect for those guys after seeing that film.
Definitely a good watch for any guitar player, whether your into that kind of music or not.

Hit it right on the nose Bob, that's what I loved about the movie as well. You don't have to love their music to appreciate their flavor of the art. I really should get this movie on DVD.
Re: Jack White and It Might Get Loud
It is worth having the DVD just to catch how many ways there are to play the same thing. Seven Nation Army is a great example.

Jack Black starts with the slide on his pinky (which I assume is just nerves), then plays the song with it on his ring finger.
Jimmy is ring finger the whole way, trying to understand why the rest just do not get how to be the slide master.
The Edge has his slide on his middle finger, sending a message to all who think he is crap, yet have not tried to play any of his songs note for note. It is much more than just a delay pedal...try it.

Fixed! Although it would have made the film more interesting/funny.Cordboard wrote:Jack WHITE starts with the slide on his pinky (which I assume is just nerves), then plays the song with it on his ring finger.

Meh. People get down on The Edge because of a lot of stuff. Opinions opinions. Either way, it's a fun movie.
