Help me identify the scale length of a wierd guitar

Post by Deacon Blues » Tue Apr 05, 2011 3:51 pm

So i have this old 335 knockoff guitar. Its a Ventura brand. Imported by Carl Bruno and sons. I think is a model v1001 or v1002. I love the neck on it, and its a bolt on so I want to take it off and get an alder body dual humbucker body for it. I need to know what kind of body can work with this neck. The people at warmoth said they didn't think they would be able to help me.

Here's the tricky part, i don't know what scale length it is. It doesn't feel like a 24.75 gibson scale, and it doesn't feel like a 25.5 fender scale. I think its a 24 scale. It feels a little small and sort of like a jaguar.

its the red guitar in the top half of the pic

Just grab a tape measurer and measure from saddle to nut.

But, knowing the scale length won't help you just bolt in onto something. There are other variables. The biggest ones being neck pocket length and bridge position.

For example. Let's say it's 24.7" and you find that the distance from the pickup edge of the neck pocket to the bridge is 6.75"...you'd have to find a body with the exact same dimensions. Also, the neck pocket would also have to be a nice fit all around.

I think you'll have a hard time doing what you are trying to do. Sorry

How do you know if the neck will fit into the other body at the right location? Some necks go a ways the body and other do not. It seems to depend on the guitar.

Get a tape measure to answer your other question.

At that point, pocket angle is another variable you'll want to consider. pocket Depth and width too.

t its several things that make me want to do this

1) i have 2 of these guitars.
2) they're completely hollow, which is cool but i don't need 2 of the same guitar basically.
3) i really like the neck
4) this particular model would need a lot of work to be brought back to full working condition. so if i'm going to spend some $ i might as well get what i really want. obviously building a body will cost more than refurbishing and replacing parts and what not, but you get the idea

Why not just use your money to buy a different guitar? ;)
