So I just left my court hearing. The officer who came wasn't even the detaining/arresting officer, but just someone else who also signed the citations. We had a talk before the hearing with him and my lawyer. He told my lawyer that I lied to him and to get my story straight.

First he said that I got thrown OUT of the bar that I was leaving, when I never even went in to the bar to begin with (see first post). Then he said I was fighting the officer, and I had to be taken to the ground in a headlock to be detained. Well I never went to the ground or was put in a headlock. But it just goes to show that these guys will lie through their teeth to make you look bad. Also in the middle of answering a question to the officer before the hearing, he said "DON'T GET SMART WITH ME"... to which my lawyer replied, he's just answering your question. Well if that doesn't clue you in on how it went down that night then I don't know what else could.

In the end however, he agreed to drop the public drunkenness and I took the open container violation. So it's not a huge deal. Plus with having the help of my lawyer friend it ended up being a $124 fine and a $120 set of PSU football tickets. So I still made out. Justice? You be the judge.

Joe, sorry brother. No that isn't justice. Seeing a copper abuse his authority and perjure himself is bad. Seeing that cop hauled out of the courtroom in cuffs would be justice.

I guess some people have a different understanding than I of what it means to swear an oath to tell the truth.

I am in no way anti law-enforcement. I'm anti Ahole. There are a lot of good coppers out there. And a whole bunch of aholes wearing badges.

That reminds me of an episode of The Dukes of Hazzard where them Duke boys got railroaded by the no-good corrupt Sheriff in neighboring Osage County. I'll be danged if they didn't make their own rules in that there county. Why do I even watch that show  ?

Glad you got out of it relatively unscathed. All things considered, roughly $250 isn't the worst thing in the world, even though it seems you deserved better.

Cops are just like the rest of the world. Some of them are good people, and some of them are assholes. It's just more noticeable when a cop is an Mr. Butt than any other person because of the power they have.

That's the truth. Cops should be held to a higher standard. There is little worse than abusing authority which has been entrusted to you. If you can't trust them, they should be removed from duty post haste.
