How many of you don't own an Orange?

Post by Norrin Radd » Thu Jul 01, 2010 12:16 am

Are you waiting to get one or have you had one prior to now and are currently without? If the latter - why did you ditch your Orange? Just curious.......

I don't not own an Orange.

I'm not sure how many people want to admit that they are not Orange owners around here.

I own 2.

However the pull of a Marshall Vintage Modern may cut that down to 1 in the future, but not anytime soon.

i don't own one. i shopped around for some for quite awhile. i love their cabs (i own a 2x12 open back ca), but i assumed you meant amps.

i decided against the orange amp for me because they were a bit dark for my taste. i ended up with a bad cat that can get REALLY bright, which is up my alley

i really liked the RV50 and TV200 but they just weren't the right match for me at the present time

I don't own one because I am poor :(

I do own a cab though, and will own an orange probably by the fall. The hard part is deciding what to buy, besides them all!

Owned enough and played plenty. They just didn't get me exactly what I needed unfortunately. The Rocker 30 was my favorite though.

Probably because we all like orange amps- and not everyone can afford to have 3 different 2k pieces of gear at once?

Personally, I joined after deciding that my next amp would be an orange (around the time I bought my orange cab), and conveniently was also looking for a new board to post on.

I first joined the forum because of a google image link from one of the original "show your stack" threads (man those were impressive!!!) which did lead me to buy an Orange

I bought an RV100H and soon after a AD140H. I loved the tone of the RV100H. I would not have parted with it or the RV100H if it were not for my 1973 Vox AC30 coming around and me needing to trade in gear before it disappeared.

I later ended up getting an RV50C but found it lacked the punch the RV100H did. The cleans were splendid though!

Spent 2-3 years away from owning an Orange amp until I finally purchased a R30H + PPC212.

had that for 6 months until I traded it away for a AD30C because the R30 clean channel had no control, and the lack of FX loop really bugged the crap outa me.

The AD30C stayed for 6 months. It was too dark. I loved it, I really did. I loved it a lot! But it was just too dark for what I was doing at the time, and I fell in love with a Marshall Vintage Modern 50 half stack which I was able to trade straight across for.

(sold the VM for my Gretsch in the sig)

I will own one again though. a TT is in the cards over the next year if the cards play out right... and if a used PRS for the right money shows up. ;)

amps too dark?

get high quality cables, many people are using crappy cables,
with long cable runs into the amp. not to mention the ultra chepo patch cables.
you invest so much money in the amps, cabs and all the stuff, but a good cable
makes always a difference. even if i plug my guitar straight into my soundcard,
it's a huge difference if i use my evidence or a sommer cable. using long cable runs is like
and or cheap cables is like rolling of your tone-kob. it works like a pot if you have tele
for example.

cables have a huge impact on the high end response (also in the mids and bass), so do yourself a favour and buy some good cables. there's no voodoo about it.

this is for more important for any darker amp, because you need all the highend you can possibly retrain.
and even if you plug straight into the amp a good cable will make a difference. same for the speaker
cable and patch cables.

i suggest using a buffer pedal for longer cable runs. it's easy: if i run the amp with 6 effects and a bunch of longer cables and there's no buffer, i loose so much highend, that my guitar sounds like crap when it's plugged into an already darker amp. if i activate my buffer and not too dark.

other imporant factory are the speakers. there are bright ones and dark ones. you could try a brighter
speaker with a darker amp.

another thing you can try is changing the pre and powertubes. get something brighter like tung sol or eh in the pre for example.

another option is, the pickups in your guitar have not enough high end.
you can try different strings and picks too. i have a telly that was so bright,
i just switched the strings to pure nickels and the problem was solved forever.

greetings,

tesla
accept darkness.

I have the RV50C and it's currently the best amp I know of. I also have a musicman hd130 and a fender bassman ltd and the next amp I will get is an early 80's Marshall JCM800 or a JMP even, but I'll never sell my Orange!

Almost owned a Sovtek Mig50 - the price was so right - but I could tell it would've been nothing but headaches after playing it at the shop... At the same shop I noticed the Orange RV100 was sitting there brightly sticking out in a sea of black Marshall and Mesa heads at the shop. I had a PPC2x12 at the time (4x12 now), and my wife being the wonderful woman she is allowed my dream of owning an Orange amp come true!

Orange was at the top of my list when I was looking for amps, but I figured due to cost at the time that it would be unattainable...I still look at it and can't believe that I own one. Best amp I've ever played on - worth every cent.
