Not unless they tested all the tubes for consistency first... and I don't know if they do that out of the factory. The thing about tubes is they're not exact carbon copies of each other in terms of performance. Tubes of the same brand that are 12AX7s, for example, will sound really similar, but tiny imperfections will cause slightly different sounds.

What brand tubes come as stock with Oranges? I have a '99 AD30R, and it has Sovtek WA 12AX7s, JJ EL84s, and a General Electric GZ34 rectifier... i'm not sure that the last is standard issue! I got it off another guy, so I don't know if he changed the tubes. It still sounds OK, so I guess they've been replaced at least once.

Don't tell me the best way, just tell me the cheapest way...

oef ...
I have to check that I think. My AD200B has electro-harmonics 6550's I think, and my AD140B has 5881WXT, but I don't know the brand right now. And I never checked the brand of the old OD120's tubes. But i was planning to open them up soon, so this is a good reason. Maybe thursday ! I'll see.

Macahan, you have a bad tube in your AD200B ? That's not cool man. Replacing the whole quad ? Wjiejew. ... I'm happy I can let that do by the tech's at work now. But just be happy with the new pure tone you will have after the replacing :)

yeah.. one tube has gone to hell or something..
i mean it sounds ok and all when i play..

but when playing guitar through it or in pauses there is a weird crackling and humming.. an also this sound..you know like the sound from an old fender amp with reverb when you accidentally kicks it or something...
it sounds kinda weird..
but i guess i have to replace the whole quad because i guess tubes have to be matched according to earlier threads..

but it freaks me out since my dentalbill this month set me back a lot of money and right now there are no money in reserve to fix the amp..

my ad200 sounds amazing..

Dental care is over-rated. Get that Orange back up and running!

I just got a ad30tc and ive played the ad30 that my friend has. as far as i can tell channel one is the same for both amps. Where you get into different territory is on channel two because it gains faster and is more ab sounding. But i mean if you hav that and a class a sound it seems to me the tc is a no brainer.

Hi, old topic but I got a comment here ... I bought a brand new AD30TC head during autumn, and now I got a 2nd hand AD30 single channel head, and I'm very happy with it. Tone-wise, it's true that the TC 1st channel is close to the single channel, but the 1st channel on TC is not 100% equal to the single channel in general terms.

I would summarize the differences as follows:

HTC ch1: Tonally, very close to the AD30H, but less gain.
HTC ch2: Gain-wise quite close to AD30H, but tonally a bit thinner, meaning less lower mids and bass.
AD30H: Tone of the HTC ch1, and gain of the HTC ch2, at least roughly, not 100%.

Overall, I think the AD30H just sounds more pleasant overall, nevermind are you on the cleaner or meaner area of gain. I found the schematics of both amps on the internet, which supports my thoughts in the sense, that AD30H is a combination of HTC's circuit design: Some parts of the AD30H circuit are similar to HTC ch1, some parts similar to HTC ch2.

As a conclusion, AD30H is a combination of the channels of the HTC, but none of the "three channels" are equal to each other.

Very interesting!

I had a AD30tc combo for a while and thought its overall gain was very similar to my AD15 single channel - I believe it's very much the same as the AD30 single channel minus 2 power valves.

The AD30tc I had was great. I genuinely think it sounded a little better than my AD15, but the AD15 was more practical to me so it stayed.

I've played the AD30R too once, sweet amp too, though the reverb was.... underwhelming. Not much if it at all.

If you want to treat yourself (And your AD30s) buy some Russian NOS 6P14P EV valves to replace the EL84.

Same cost as JJ/EH, but sound fantastic. A really fuller, richer, more detailed sound, am they're meant to last 10 times as long as regular EL84 as they are military grade valves.

By the way.....
Next time, you should make you own thread. Your observations are very worthy in their own right!!!!

Few people have had both the single and twin channel together. Never thought of comparing their schematics.

Welcome to the forum!!!! 😀

Thanks for this. I’m very curious and kind of gassing to find An ad30 single channel. The tc is cool too. But to be honest I saw someone way back that had the single with 2x12. And his tone was sooooo badass. It is really what inspired me down the path of being into orange. I got a chance to play through a single once and spent all of 5 min on it at a store and it was at a time I had no money for a head. Down the road got a rocker 30 which I love. But I still am intrigued by the ad30h
