I love Tele's, always have, but not for that twang, but for the big warm punch they can deliver. I have always loved Tele's, but have had a very hard time finding one that "works" because many of the modern ones have that icepick tone.

I have found a few very warm bridge pickups that still give you the "thats a tele" tone, but with some good raw power. My fav is the Antiquity 1955 Lead with the staggered pole pieces. Its a fantastic warm punchy pickup that can still give you that twang when you need it, but without the ice pick top end that older SD and modern Fender pickups give you.

I also like the SD Quarter Pounder, and the Jerry Donahue as well. :D

For a neck pickup, nothing has beat Fenders "Twisted Tele" pickup. I love that thing in my Tele! So warm and full, but clear and articulate. Its the tone I think of when someone says "Tele neck position".

Its too bad the Antiquity and the Twisted are so low gain pups tho... I'll probably buy another tele to throw a set of Quarter Pounders in, and then build my HH Tele.

Can't have enough Tele's. :)

P.S. The EMG pickups for Tele are surpassingly pleasing to the ear, unlike the humbuckers they offer.

I love Teles but I'm not a fan of the snappy twang as much as the really old Teles where the bridge pickups were fat and warm. Many of my Teles/Esquires have had bridge pickups rewound to be fatter and warmer and really sound amazing...
Indeed they do!

Thanks Hink!

Thinline Slim: all of my rewinds were done by Lindy Fralin.

Teddy: I'm going to have to check out the Muy Grande's!
