John Paul Jones once said walk around the studio until you find the place your amp sounds best. Put your mic there!
Live is a different critter. I like the Senheiser e609. YMMV.
You could always an angled cab to put on top of a straight cab, that'd be awesome. You'd definately hear yourself then. And you could keep tabs on your tone and volume quite easily too.

I decided to pass on the trade. I'm going to just keep my 2x12 and buy the 4x12 later.

Just to throw in here, a 2x12 with an angled 4x12 on top would be a good mix of both worlds...

Ahhh.... Baytamusic 2 years ago. So young, naive, and wishing for a 6x12 of v30s to pair with his AD50...

PPC 412 straight vs angled
I currently have two straight cabs and was considering getting a beater, maybe it could be an angled cab?
anyone out there with both?
does the directionality of the stacked angled change much vs two straight cabs?
anyone actually A/B these two Orange cabs (and not the marshalls 1960A vs 1960b)
I've played both, although the angled cab was a marshall with 75's. Still, it sounded more even throughout the room. You know how with straight cabs you can stand at the side and the tone is more muffly sounding, and then in front it sounds more crisp by comparison? I guess what I'm getting at is the sound doesn't seem as directional. I think if you already have some straights, a good angled cab would be a good tonal experiment for you, especially if you can get a beater, and not be out a lot for it. It will make you turn down a bit too as the volume is not going past your knees so much.
I liked my straights better, but I'm not comparing oranges to oranges, but oranges to apples, I mean marshalls with 75's.
Sincerely,

RE: Angled VS Straight
So far, without having yet plugged my personal RV100MKIII into a straight cab, I hypothesize that the angled cabinets have a hugely significant tonal increase in spiky, icepicky highs. I've played an RV100MKIII at Guitar Center through a straight cab and the highs on that setup have never been anything but sweet, warm, articulate, clear and soothing yet still sounding aggressive when set above 1 O'Clock. With the same settings on my personal RV100 through my angled cab, there seems to be a constant level of sterile and slightly nauseating spiky treble edge that is NOT desirable. To be clear, this only in regard to use of the drive channel. Clean sounds really nice either way.
I've always loved the look of an angled cab but I'm thinking about trading this one for a straight. Of course, I intend to plug my RV into the same cab at Guitar Center to limit the variables and find out if it is simply the cabinet shape before I do that.
Anyone ever experience this extreme level of variation between straight and angled high end response?

So I plugged my RV100MKIII into the straight cabinet at Guitar Center and it sounded way better than it does through my angled cabinet. So either angled cabinets DO NOT suit the Rockerverb drive sound or there's something fishy about my particular angled cabinet.

Hopefully you can find someone to do straight swap deal with.

Straight cab too directional? Clearly the amp is not loud enough and needs to be turned up

Yeah, I was talking with the rep at GC about what that would look like to do it with them and its pretty much a rip off. My cab is newer and in technically better shape than theirs and I would still owe them like $550 after the swap.

Its funny you bring that up because honestly, I feel like the straight cab reaches my ear better than the angled when sitting at the same distance.
