Feeling musically blue...
...I just don't know what to do. :S
We've got a show this friday, hopefully that'll get me back into the groove.
What do you guys do to shake a funk?

Fuzz pedal, reverb and slide guitar.

I'm trying to dive into theory to shake mine. Mine is more writers block coupled with temporary lack of other musicians

Re: Feeling musically blue...
Turn up the volume and play massive riffs and power chords for about 20 minutes. Let the amp breathe and play it loud - let me remember why I LOVE R&R in the 1st place. Second option is to call up my Favorites playlist, open all the car windows, drive on non-busy highways and blare the tunes. 3rd option is to stop feeling sorry for myself, realize how lucky I am compared to most everyone else in the world and stop the slef pity party and play loud to remind me of how good I actually have it.
Hope you find what works for you!

I appreciate the words of wisdom gentlefolk. I'll get my play on sometime soon here.
Re: Feeling musically blue...
I just drink a few beers, and practice scales to keep my fingers up to speed.I have a show on Saturday, but I expect it to be a good one.
It is a private party, and we have played for them two times. The pay and food is good but they drink Yuerlings .So if I want any real beer I will have to carry some Ranger IPA or Sierra Nevada.

Get away from music for a bit. Start a project to take your mind off it until you're itching to play your guitar again. Always works for me.
Re: Feeling musically blue...
If I don't look forward to a gig, then I won't play it to start with.
I don't play many gigs anymore. If I play, then it is something I want to do for a crowd that I like.First I have to be paid well, second they have to uh and ah about my playing.

I think you've more than earned your own TV show by now .neonrust wrote:Put your hands on the guitar and break all the rulz!
+1 to the suggestion of playing at high volumes. It's hard to have a bad time playing through a great amp when the speakers are moving a ton of air.

I usually will pull out some seldom used pedals from the archives... Grab a gtr from under the bed. Hug my wife, kick my cat, and remember that I've been blessed with a strange, frustrating, and unique talent that my friends and family will never understand. Plus, at least I'm not a drummer!!! http://reinhardtamps.com/files/Vintage100.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; / yep... My knees are deaf..

This is what I do. If the guitar doesn't call me for a few days... or even a week or two... I just find other stuff to do. I know eventually it'll call me back, we're too close.drewfromutah wrote:Get away from music for a bit. Start a project to take your mind off it until you're itching to play your guitar again. Re: Feeling musically blue...
Hey Neil. You got gig. Be thankful for that and prepere yourself to have a great one. If I have anything less than a great gig it tears me up and I can't wait for the next one for redemption.
Re: Feeling musically blue...
Wise words one and all. I'm excited to just go and rock it. Life is good, just take time to relax. I'm getting too wound up over things, it's funny, I'm getting so into summer stuff that I feel like I have to squeeze the stuffing out of every moment, and that gets me stressed. Time to chillax and enjoy it all.
And I'm also going to take a fast from music. As in no more radio to start with, we recently lost the last decent local station, and I'm done with it. Too depressing.
