Road Worn 50's Strat!
Well fellas, let the 'relic or not' debate begin
My wife noticed that I favored this guitar (after a few visits) @ GC and decided I should have it for my Birthday (01/15, so I got it early too!). Anyway, it's a fantastic guitar. I have a few strats but none do it for me like this one. I went to GC and Fuller's Vintage Guitars (one of the largest Fender dealers in the country) and played several strats w/ the thinking that if this one is good, there must be an expensive custom shop one out there to GAS for, right? All day, and nothing just really was any better than this guitar. I played all kinds of strats. Eric Clapton (sterile), Eric Johnson (neck was too chunky for me), David Gilmour (good, but not $5k good), 50's (the best of the ones I did play), 60's, Player, Hot Rod, and relics from 50's- thru '69 (the 69's were also very good, but not noticeably better). Seriously, bang for buck it can't be beat. The 6105 frets coupled w/ the soft V neck (which feels slightly slimmer than the other soft V's I played yesterday) is heaven. I though that I was a modern C kind of guy, but have found that the soft V suits me best. The Tex Mex pups are fantastic too. Just noisy, nasty strat tone all day long. They just raised them to $930. I got mine clearance for $700. I played a few of the ones they had (60's, 50's, different colors, etc) and this one was the lightest, best sounding / playing of the bunch. And because I know without pics, it didn't happen:

Awesome! The roadworns are some of the best bang for buck, IMO. Definitely a nice score. Love that combo, too. NOW, when do we get to hear it?

It's hard to beat a guitar that just feels right. At the end of the day when you pick it up, and it clicks, well it is then the perfect guitar. Glad to hear you found it. I have two of them and it is great to play one and feel no need for 'better' equipment.

Amen, looks great. I've been GASing for a '60's RW Strat since the summer and dammit all, I will get one eventually. The '50's RW Strats are great as well, I just want a rosewood fingerboard, that's all.
Guitar looks great, glad you are enjoying it!

I had a 60's one on lay-away a few months back and changed my mind at the last minute. I like the rosewood and 3-ply guard on those a lot.

i once played some roadworn series guitars, and liked them good.....especially the tele....not a huge fan of reliced guitars, but they played well
