Tiny Terror vs. JCM800

Post by massivecoiler » Wed Jan 06, 2010 4:29 am

I was fooling around in the garage with a 2009 TT thru a 1971 Orange 4X12 and a JCM800 thru a 1971 Marshall slant. Both fine sounding amps, a little more gain with the TT.

How long have you had that orange cab?

Looks like its been burnt then you tried to put the fire out with coffee..

I bought it from a friend in 1983 when I was 17 and it was in mint condition, then I took it on the road for many years with no case.

both sound great - and you have made me glad i just picked up a 4104 - now i just want it to arrive - i might do a similar comparison with the r30/jcm800 combo :)

they both sound good, i think the TT sounds fuller but ill also know that the Marshall needs to be turned up a bit, to "THAT" point to get it's full bodied sound, its thin sounding, the tubes really arent being run the way most Marshall users would run them.

thanks for posting, thats a great clip.

EDIT: not sure why i put R30. i corrected this

Love the Orange cab!

(and the usual suspects too (playing and tone that is))

Have to say I like the Marshall more...
I play bass.

I second that. Also, I found your other video, "Drive By Belching" a bit more entertaining.

I used to have more Orange stuff. Now I just have a PPC412 (black), and a Micro Crush.

I think they both sound great, but I would go with the marshall.

Thanks, I am quite proud of that one! Drive By Belching 2 had too much mic noise, we had a n00b camera operator. Hoping to complete the trilogy in summer 2010.

my previous post was fast, i was in a rush, but here's what i wanted to say...

i thought at first the Marshall sounded slightly better but by the end i thought the TT sounded fuller. but the Marshall is way under powered and is capable of sounding much much fatter if cranked up a bit more, but to keep both amps equal for the mic level i guess it has to be set like that.

its kinda like compairing a Corevette with a 900 horse power 1/4 mile drag car  both being great machines..

this clip makes me want a TT more now than ever :D

is that Marshall a 50 or 100 watt ??

It's a 50 watt. In fairness to the TT, I noticed that I'm standing in front of the orange alot of the time and the sound changes as I move around. I don't think the clip accurately captures some of the tone of the TT... The combo by itself on a nice stage sounds stellar. I have a Boogie 50 cal as well maybe when it gets warm outside (I'm in Canada so the garage is off limits for noodling this time of year) there will be a 3 way shootout!
