Weird: A Gibson Jimi Hendrix Model... That's NOT a Flying V

Post by Pacemaker » Thu Sep 24, 2009 5:28 am

Apologies if this has been discovered and posted before... but this is strange. I don't know whether to be totally appalled, or just kind of okay with it:

That really takes the biscuit for cheek.......

That is in such poor taste it's not even funny.
I hope it bombs and damages the reputatons of all concerned in the process.......that is greed personified and has nothing to do with Jimi.

As a lefty, I am constantly offended by all the tribute guitars bearing the name of lefty musicians... produced for righties only. The Jagstang is the worst offender of the bunch, as when they reissued it they made it righty only. I don't think Kurt would've approved :(

I'm pretty sure Fender have already done this to a strat (ie. flipped bridge pup and headstock) and at a higher standard. The prices i've seen for these 'Gibson' models are Squier territory.

Though if you check the images out on this link, there appears to be a more slightly Gibson-like model on the way. Probably more Gibson priced too.

Anyway, the whole thing stinks! Especially after the Gibson vs PRS suit.

well...i hate to say it...but you can't solely blame gibson on this one...the Hendrix family estate was involved...they are the ones capitalizing on this...

until i saw that this morning i didn't even know that fender had lost the rights to their shapes...

I'm not overly impressed, but if it inspires a few kids around the world to pick up a guitar and start playing, it's not all bad either.

Now, they have opened up door..... when are we going to see Jimi branded buble gum? Action figures? Acid tabs?

To be honest, I doubt that thought crossed their minds at all when designing this. Any kid who is insprisded by Hendrix would be just as happy with a Squier Strat or something. This thing is just an ugly, cynical abomination!

Agreed. They'd probably be even more so happy with a Squire or a Fender strat, as that's what Hendrix actually played. I think Gibson is going through that "80s Dean" phase where they just start throwing out any marketing idea they can come up with and see what sells.
