Keeley Compressor

Post by NiallB » Mon Aug 10, 2009 9:51 am

So, I got a 4 knob Keeley a while back (when I was in the states and the exchange rate was 2:1). However, I've recently discovered that it is the source of most of the noise issues in my rig. Any ideas of what to do? Should I drop keeley an email and see what they recommend?

p.s. Here's my chain...

Ernie Ball volume=>Boss TU-2=>keeley=>ts-808=>hotcake=>zvex fuzz=>Boss Dm2=>Boss DD6.

I mean I get the usual slight bump in buzz when I kick on an OD but the keeley just introduces so much it's a real annoyance.

i think keeley suggests using the comp after distortion...

that way you get less of a boost in the highs... which might help a little... perhaps something to try?...

How's the grounding on it? I sometimes got issues running my Aphex in front of other overdrives.

They do?
My Keeley sounds best before overdrive and boost. With the OCD before it, it still works OK, but with the Boner Cloner (Super Hardon) it sounds all muffled up.

Compressors will add noise...or make noies already there more apparent. It's the nature of the beast.....compress the higher signal and turn up the lower (i.e. noise)

Wherever I put it in the chain I get noise. It's freaking loud.

I think I have grounding issues on my tele, I want to get it shielded and re-wired.

I really like the Keeley, but don't want to have to spend loads on getting the noise issue sorted (buying a noise suppressor or a new power supply).

Faulty unit then.. Did you immidietly believe that that the pedal would have this noise issue and that thousand users ignored it?
I tried that red Lehle switch once. Noisy as hell, went back with it for a new one. It had the same noise problem, so I gave up, but I hope that both were faulty.

The Keeley compressor doesn't have a noise issue.

My friend has a couple of Keeley comps and I have not been impressed with them at all, of course I own a Diamond and there is no comparison.

my keeley doesn't add any noise either- alone, before or after dirt pedals. weird that you had issues with it.

maybe your doesn't....but mine sure did...but the only reason I wanted a refund was I ran across an old Ross comp on craigslist(jonesed for one for a long time)...and I paid a helluva lot less for something I wanted a helluva lot more... :D

Maybe mine's just doing its job really well, and highlighting an underlying problem with either my guitar or pedal boards grounding....
