and i don't like it
this thing sounds just too fat, i dont know how to describe it but whn i think of marshall tones i think of bight, screamy crunch and this more like a warm and fat - but maybe thats the way jtm45 sounds ( never played one )
it sounds good but just not what i expected
maybe its my amps fault - my mesa dc3 has a lot of bottom end
i already found a buyer for my BOR and got a sweet deal on t-rex mudhoney - i know its completely different beast but i always wanted to try this pedal - overdrive and fuzz in one pedal, gotta love this !
i just got zvex Box of Rock

I think you right about it not sounding right to your ears through that amp. My Mesa is very bottomie sounding for a classic amp. 4 el84's in the Caliber 50, some overdrive /distortion pedals just don't sound right through it. The amp actually sounds better to my ears when I'm using a more modern sounding distortion like my Emma through this amp them with my TS9. The TS9 actually robs the bottom end out of the amp and the overdrive sounds harsh to me... Anyways thought I would let you know that..

Maybe you should try the new Z-Vex Distortron. It's basically a BOR, without the boost, but has a three position bass cut switch. So if you liked the general drive character, that's probably the way to go.
On the other hand,he Mudhoney is fine too...

its common for many dirt boxes to have too much bottom end especially with bassy amps and mine is bassy and dark sounding
+ in case of box of rock after you turn drive knob past 12 o clock it adds even more bottom end, way to bassy for my taste

I should qoute myself from another thread on this one:tony_clifton wrote:I run a BOR trough a DRRI and I never had such problems? Au contraire, I have to turn down the tone knob quite a bit on my guitar?

When I had my BoR, I really liked it at first. I was using it in front of a Tiny Terror, and I could get some really really cool sounds out of it. But almost ALL of those cool sounds were when I was playing at bedroom volumes. Obviously, this also has to do with the nature of the TT. Other than that, I definitely agree... way too much bottom... and I always thought the tone knob was fairly useless.
But I sold it in conjunction with a ton of other things to finance my Rocker 30. And while I wish I still had the BoR to see how it sounded in front of my R30C, I am still totally OK with not having it.
In summary, it's definitely a pedal that is particular to the amp. And when I had my TT, as is the case with your Mesa, it just didn't jive well. Such is the nature with pedals (and especially expensive "boutique" pedals).
