Just wondering if you guys could give me some playing advice. What looks good, what doesn't, etc.

Hmmm my advice would be to sharpen up your timing a little bit and work on getting a little more "feel". Timing is easy, but feel can take awhile to develop.

I have no chance next to some of the competition, but here it is (I mainly do these for fun). Rob just hasn't accepted my video response yet.

vary your pick attack a bit to make those riffs more spicy (dynamic?)

The one thing you can do to triple the quality of your playing is to develop a good vibrato. Not too hectic, not too little....just a warm medium vibrato at an even tempo.

That's what I was thinking. It helps me when I'm playing long, sustained single notes so it doesn't sound flat or "blah".

yeah - better timing, better "feel", varying your pick attack, developing some nice vibrato - i agree

also : use stops and pauses while playing, sometimes play slower, sometims play faster so it doesn't sound so monotonously

try to use all the pentatonic scales while playing - not only one or two

also learn when you can break the rules while playing scales, don't play everything by the book

imho for playing some good ol' rock and blues pentatnics are all you need and they are much easier to learn than normal scales

Try to get your bends a little more controlled and in pitch. Work to get them smooth and if you really work hard on your vibrato then you will soon learn to add it to a bend. Not easy at first.

Just keep practising and playing along to tracks.......timing soon becomes "automatic".
Like some others have said....try and play softly at the start of a phrase and dig in to finish it......it teaches you dynamics.

As prior said, I think you should work on feeling more than anything. That is indubitably what separates many great players from quotidian players. Try to amalgamate some "soul" with your playing and make your audience prognosticate it's the conclusive song of your life. It becomes more and more congenital with experience.
