Brian
PLEASE TAKE MAJOR CAUTION-TUBE AMPS HOLD RESIDUAL CURRENT
AND AN ELECTRICAL SHOCK FROM THEM IS FATAL!!
The resistance you're feeling after the screws have been removed is all down to the orange Tolex! (and possibly some residual spray adhesive)
Best way is to put the AD-5 face down on the carpet or on a table with
a blanket on it so as not to damage the front of the amp.
once all the screws are out you need to carefully prise underneath the unscrewed wooden backplate piece on both sides using something
flat, strong & smooth- edged
( i used a butter knife but dont tell my partner!)
You just need to get the knife under about a half inch
and ultra slowly lift each side by an eighth of an inch
The whole piece should now let go of it's grip and you can
do the rest with your hands.
Once the wood is free you should not have any stickyness
to contend with.
You don't need to separate the amp module
from the wood piece in order to change tubes
and risk of shock is minimized.
I can't advise you on tubes but there are many real experts here
who can!
Good luck with it
cheers Neil
