Hey there.

So I bought my Orange head privately and have NO IDEA when it was made.
It's an AD30 single channel.
Have searched the internet and cannot find anything.....

Help?!

Hi whiterabbit, and welcome to the forum! :)

It should have a serial number on the back. The current system uses the last 4 digits to give you the month and year of production:

MMYY.

Okay - well the serial number is
OR301+/72/100

It's at little hard to read but I'm pretty sure its this...

Cheers for your help!8)

Looks like the same SN format as the ones bclaire owns:
http://forum.orangeamps.com/viewtopic.p ... laire+owns

which would suggest yours was made in January 2000.

Mmm...
My orange head just died.
It smelt like the electrics inside were melting.
This is of course three days before I go on tour....

Any suggestions as to what this may be or how it can be fixed?
I had the tubes replaced 12 months ago and they still light up.
I really think its something internal.

<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">Sorry to hear it. Thats not much to go on though. From the sound of it though you need to find a good tech quickly - burning / melting smells are never great news so it probably isn't just a case of a duff valve Im afraid.

:?: Does your amp have a printed circuit board? Not seeing reverb on the specs you gave and I'm wondering if it isn't a Custom Shop built model. Either way it is a fairly simple amp design so a decent tech ought to be able to sort you out fairly quickly. Unless you've been very unlucky and had a major failure that is, eg a burnt out transformer. That is fairly unlikely though.

If you don't know a good valve amp tech you have left it a bit late. Phone round your local quality music shops and ask if they have someone you can speak to about an urgent repair on your Orange amp. And I'd strongly recommend you get them to fit at least a new matched set of decent quality power valves, and supply a couple of spares (also matched) to take on tour too. Do no harm to take a couple of known working preamp valves along too just in case...

Wishing you luck there, and with the tour! :)

Cheers Andy -

Yeah. I know an amp repairer/ guitar shop that specializes in Orange amps. So I'll take it there when I get back.
I've had to borrow a marshall head for the tour. Would've preferred my Orange but what can you do eh?

I have a single channel amp. I think my serial number tells me it was made in 03.
