Finally managed to arrange the time to take this Amp to the Matamp factory to get the final say on whether it is an original Matamp Series 2000 that was damaged and repaired with an Orange faceplate and case, or if it is a very early Orange/Matamp collaboration.

Expect an answer next week.

It looks like its an Orange/Matamp prototype.

NOT 100% confirmed as of yet.

I have left it with Jeff at Matamp and he will sort the electrics and try to find out whatever he can about its history.

Only dimly aware of existence, a dimly existing awareness...

You get a wonderful view from the point of no return.

I've seen this amp in real life now.
If you don't mind I could post some pictures of it when I get back home to Sweden.
Jeff hasn't authenticated it yet, since he has a bad shoulder. He was moaning as hell when I was there.

Realised there are no pics in this post (the links were in the initial post) - so here is one.

Since you posted a picture of the front, here's the back then!

It's actually a Series 2000 in a Orange Matamp box, probably put in there by Mat himself as the first prototype of the Orange Matamps.

Here is an extract from a mail sent from Jeff at Matamp regarding the repairs to this amp :-

"The update is that after 3 hours work and fitting 2 fuseholders, 2 EL34 valves and the 32u+32u caps we now have a worker giving 32watts, remember its a bass amp. I have freed the switches but they only half work, they really need changing. Should i or shouldn't i ?. "

I have written back saying that the switches should be replaced so that the amp works correctly.

Dave (Orphin) I have sent you a mail regarding your post about the artifacts from Matamp - hope you get it :)

I have a date - 1968

The amp was seen by the original builder today.

I am now going to see if I can find out more from the person I purchased it from 28 years ago.
Unfortunately the original seller is in Russia at the moment so will be another week or two before I can speak with him.

Did Jeff authenticate it to that year?

Jeff verbally authenticated it last night when I phoned him to 1968 - yes.

That's cool.
With my amp it's hard to tell. Mat's old records didn't strech further than 1972. I guess mine is built between yours in '68 and when Cooper Mathias Ltd. launched in august '69, because it doesn't say Cooper Mathias on it like the later ones.
