is an ad140 too much for a 2x12 cab?
Moderator: bclaire
i'm thinking i want to go with the ad series instead of the rockerverbs, but i like to have alot of clean headroom. I have an orange 2x12 with vintage 30s and wonder if the ad140 is just gonna be overkill for it. What do you guys think? has anyone played through this setup? how does it compare to the ad30?
Love, Seth.

Well, since it's a closed back cab it should be OK. Vintage 30's are a 60 watt handling speaker so the total load is only 120 watts, which is less than the 140 watts that the head puts out. I'd say as long as you don't dime it, you're probably OK. I used to use my Marshall 1936 2X12 cab that's also loaded with V30's with my AD140TC and never had a problem but I never turned it way up either....

Yea unless you are cranking it, you shouldnt have a problem. Plus Celestion is pretty good with their ratings. You can probably get 140 watts out of those speakers. They rate them lower on purpose

Originally, the Vintage 30's had a listed higher rating. I think it was 75 or 80 at the beginning...
