Hi there I really need help here!!!!
I am stuck between two amps
I have gotten two ok deals on two different orange amps. This is my situation:
I live in Berlin germany. and i have a deal with a guy in sweden on a Orange Overdrive 120 from 1978! And here in germany i have a guy who have done a deal on a New retro50custom.
The thing is that if i buy the Overdrive i will have money left to buy my altime favurite guitar (gibson Firebird) and if i buy the retro. Then i have to save some months before i can get the firebird!
The thing is. Which amp do you guy think sound the best. ( i play hard rock ala Hellacopters and glucifere)
Is it not better to get the New amp. Then you are sure that nothing is wrong. Hmmmm
Please let me know what you think about my situation!!
I really need help here!!!
Thanks
ALEX

Hi man.
The 1978 is probably this model:
http://geocities.com/n0nym0us/OFG_OD120HV.htm
Ive been really dying to hear the retro 50. It kinda seems like it would be the best new orange amp offered now.
Very much like the vintage non-master OR 80 but point to point wiring and as you said, it´s new.
The overdrive is probably a very cool amp. I know for myself that i colud have a lot more use of and OD Orange cuz my 1973 OR120 is so go-go-gadget loud, and it sounds best at high volumes.
But bare in mind. I bought mine for 750 euros and still had to recap it and retube it at an amp-technician. Ended up paying over 500 for everything that had to be done. Though it works nicely now it did turn out to be a really expensive investment. Still Im a sucker for old stuff so I pretty glad I got it. Its just what i need at the moment.
You should try to find out more on this bbs.

Hello and thanks for your reply.
Yeah, that was my thought aswell
With a new amp i know what i get and cuz it´s here in berlin i can try it before i buy it. The Overdrive is in sweden and i have to buy it to try it.
I don´t know. I have heard that the old ones should sound way better but then again i have read that the retro should be very close to the old ones :-/
And i love the firebird

Hi Hyena.
I saw you posted a thread on the plexi palace Orange BBS, I put in an answer and here I am again.
I´m from Helsinki, och jag talar svenska jag med. By the way, we recorded our last ep in a studio called up'n'running in Hagsätra, Stockholm last fall, There are some soundclips on our website.
Altought Im not using an Orange on those. Its small old fender vibrochamps and tweeds, a Supro and a Selmer head with a Fender vibrotone rotating speaker cab. And lots of other cool stuff. Mellotron, wurlitzer, philichorda,Roland Juno-60 and a pumorgan.
The music is pretty psychedelic indie-retro but I do play Heavy stuff as well in other bands.
Knowing that, you probably understands why i would go with the Old one anyways, and you never know. It might be a jewel.

remember that retro 50s are orange's attempt to recapture the sound of old oranges...why pay twice as much for a reissue type amp when you can have a vintage one for half the price. i would get the old one and the guitar, just makes more sense.

Hi there
I just wanted to tell you all that i am now a proud owner of a Orange OD120 and a Orange cabinet 4x12"... I paid the same price for Cabinet and amp as i wanted to pay for just the amp (Od 120) before. I got a great deal to say it mildly ))
Now i will go get my Firebird and still have money over for something nice )))
Hmmm, i think i will get this Boss RC 20 loop station thing. I am the only guitar player in my band it it could come in handy
Hmmm, I love to have problem spending money don´t you?
