Hi guys
I'm looking at purchasing a vintage or 120 and was wondering if anyone has seen a serial number that looks like it's been painted on top of the original chassis.
The fonts look right but orange paint is different.
Cheers

Re: Vintage orange serial??
Yes, that's the way it should be.
The only thing that I would plan for, is that the seller says there is some hum. It may not, but it might need to have the filter caps replaced. I would also plan on bringing it immediately to an amp tech to check it all out. Maybe new tubes/valves but it wouldn't surprise me that it might need caps.

Re: Vintage orange serial??
Thanks for that.
I spoke with the seller and he said that the paint is slightly raised where the discolouration is surrounding the model and serial number, which made me think it had been painted over.
Could it have been painted over in the factory?
What do you think it could ppssibly be?
Cheers!

Re: Vintage orange serial??
Well, it looks original to me.
However, the serial number doesn't correspond to the limited ones on the Orange Amp Field Guide. That doesn't mean anything because serial numbers can be all over the place. The OR120's were made from 1973- the late 70's. My feeling is earlier...

Thanks so much.
Would the pot codes provide an accurate year of production?

Re: Vintage orange serial??
Could be but I only know about American pot codes....
Re: Vintage orange serial??
Looks very like a Pix only type amp from the board (preamp tubes on pcb) with mid-lift inductor so I guess some time in '72.
Yes pots or caps may have codes on them.

Cheers!
How well made are these amps compared to Hiwatts and other amps from that era?
I've read that they're not point to point handwited units but does this really matter? Will the presence of a pcb affect their collectability and value?
Thanks again!
