What does "Proto" mean in a serial?

Chris here, new to the forum, been playing Orange for 2 years which also as long as I have played six string, anyways own 3 Orange amps, love them all. Most recent purchase is this mid 2010 TH30, love it, beautiful Chinese-built Orange, buttery overdriven awesomeness, or with the clean channel a smooth foundation to build upon.
So, the serial has me questioning. It is labeled "Proto•02•0610", what does proto mean? All the newer TH30's I have seen, the serial will say (only an example) "0234•1018" with no letters attached at all. So would this have any significance? I will link below a photo of the front and the back of the amp. Note, it also has the older style knobs, which I actually prefer.
