lets see if we can narrow down the date on this one. please give supporting reasons for the date you think this head was made.

well, the pics aren't showing up for whatever reason, so here is the link:

i believe this head was made in early '72. here is why:

ive seen Orange Matamp heads that date right up through 1970 so i believe the first orange heads were made towards the end of 1970 or early 1971.

i also believe that the first OR120s had laydown transformers, preamp tubes on the pcb, a black "voice of the world" background (as opposed to white), matamp type knobs, and were mounted in the chasis using 4 bolts in the faceplate (like orange matamps). ive seen 2 orange heads like this and they have 4 digit serial numbers as opposed to the usual 120XXX number. they were both plexi panel models as well, as opposed to painted metal.

here is one of the 2 i've seen:
www.geocities.com/ecto_coolest/page4.html

the power cord was modded to be detachable in the above link.

i believe orange owner's amp to be made in 1972 because it has the same laydown transformers and pcb mounted preamp tubes as the first or120s, but has a different faceplate (white background for "voice of the world" and lacking the matamp style knobs and 4 bolts for mounting) and has a 120XXX style serial number.

Sometime in 1973, based on the pictures in the '73 catalogue, the faceplate changed from pix only to pix and text.

That would put this amp anywhere from early '72 to early '73. I believe it to be an early '72 because of the similar laydown transformers and pcb mounted tubes that the first or120s had. Ive seen big pix only or120s with stand up transformers and non-pcb mounted tubes and those are probably late '72, early '73 models before the faceplate changed to pix and text. I've seen some standup transformer models that have small pix only faceplates as well. these were probably the last pix only models made before the switch to pix and text.

if anyone owns a pix only vintage orange or120 that is an exception to any of the above, please post...maybe we can sort this out. pictures would be a plus as well.

sounds about right... cab is definitely newer since it has the metal handles- I have two Orange cabs one with metal handles- the other with smaller rectangular cutaways in the cab- much older... I'd suspect more current with this head!
